The Cleaning Lady Renewed for Season 4 at Fox Amid Backstage Shakeup
The Cleaning Lady has been renewed for a fourth season at Fox, where the search for a new showrunner is underway.
According to our sister site Deadline, which first broke the news, Miranda Kwok, who developed the series, and Jeannine Renshaw, who served as co-showrunners on Season 3, will not be returning in that capacity for Season 4.
The renewal is reportedly for 12 episodes.
Season-to-date, The Cleaning Lady is averaging 2.2 million total viewers and a 0.2 demo rating (with Live+7 playback), down a steep 37% and 60% from its sophomore run.
The crime drama has been forced to pivot in its current third season, following the death of male lead Adan Canto in January after a battle with appendiceal cancer. Because the show’s writers had initially hoped to bring Canto back later in Season 3 after he’d completed treatment, his character, Arman Morales, was initially kidnapped in the season premiere and left offscreen, whereabouts unknown, for several episodes. Ultimately, in the season’s sixth outing, Arman briefly returned (via CGI trickery) to be brought home by his captors, but he perished when the vehicle transporting him swerved and fell off a cliff.

Ditto. I never pull for a show to get cancelled. But I thought this was a goner. The show should treat these final eps as potentially the last year.

Let’s be realistic, if we say that people stopped watching the show because of Adan’s death then let’s admit that her and Thony’s story doesn’t interest anyone and doesn’t keep people watching TV. It is Thony who should now leave the show along with the showrunners who created that absurd character that is just Breaking Bad II. They should start writing the original story of the series on which this is supposedly based but which has nothing to do with the original. Especially Thony’s character. They destroyed that character and the story. Thony should go along with his creators.
I am very surprised. But I hope it can continue to be a good source of entertainment. Just don’t take it seriously.

I have watched the show since it’s very first episode and the show is just not the same without Adan Canto who portrayed the mesmerizing character Arman Morales but I’m going to continue to watch the show until it’s final episode, just to see what happens with Thony, Nadia and Fiona.
Yes, it’s been tough to watch without Adan. Plus, the writers inexplicably killed off the other male lead, Oliver Hudson, at the end of last season. Somehow, I’m hoping he faked his death and will come back next season. I think next season will be its last though. It doesn’t bode well for a series to get new showrunners, especially after losing both its male leads. This new guy just isn’t cutting it for me. Maybe this show needs to focus more on Thony, Nadia, and Fiona. Like a Thelma and Louise-type show. Ditch the kids. The little boy can’t act and is barely onscreen. Chris is super annoying and the girl can go live with her dad.
I have to agree about the little boy. He has to be the son or grandson of one of the Fox big wigs.
i really thought they would bring liza weil more into the forefront to avenge Garrett’s death. but I guess she would’ve been too expensive?

This is probably the most surprising renewal of a show I watch in a long time. We’ve watched from the start. The loss of such an amazing actor, Adan Canto was a blow. This is still hard to wrap my mind around. While the show obviously had to pivot, they’ve done it well. I very much like Santiago Cabrera’s character, Jorge, and he brings a balancing vibe to the loss of Arman. Hopefully, the characters from this season will continue into the next.

This really surprises me. I miss Adam Canto but thought they did a good job this season. Thought for sure it would end its run this spring.

Frankly I thought Adan Canto’s death storywise was poorly handled and hope that does not continue to dominate this show.I particularly thought the “Thelma and Louise” style death was laughable.This is a good show otherwise,my hope is next season moves on with a new story that isn’t overly focused on the death.Maybe new leadership will mean new ideas.
I hope the annoying Thony and her idiotic storyline doesn’t any relevance in season four. I know, I know…she IS, etc. The only one I interest to see are Nadia and Jorge. All the rest should leave the show.
I know you said “you know” about her being the titular character. But really that’s the reality of it. She has to be the main focus. It’s like asking for Elsbeth to not focus on Elsbeth.
The main character is totally broken and distorted if, as they say, it is based on the Argentine original (I saw it 3 times) So that it is “just the cleaning lady.” They should rewrite it from the character of Fiona, and Thony should be the missing and murdered sister who, as she cleans crime scenes, realizes what they do for those she works for and that they are the ones who did that to her sister. Thony at this moment is already unrelatable. Because also the audience can’t stand it. Fiona doesn’t have any special abilities, nor is she a doctor or anything like the original series. Ramona should follow the same path as her predecessors Hayak, Kamdar and now Ramona should also die to close the cycle of eternal repetitions. I like Nadia and Jorge as a couple and as a team. This character who was blackmailed into dismissing the charges against her is interesting if you start to follow Jorge’s path as a lawyer. I also liked Isabel, she could be a good friend and confidant of Nadia, Nadia needs a family, and I also liked Eduardo, Jorge’s older brother, by setting ethical limits for him. The FBI cannot be the enemy to fight nor can it be such an idiot. And please! Enough of surgeries with glue and unsterilized stapler hooks where the individual recovers as if he were the coyote that was chasing Rusty Racer

Surprising and yet not surprising, either. It was renewed for a season 3 with low ratings, so it’s not really surprising that it was renewed for a season 4 with even lower ratings. That being said, I thought they’d just end it this season after Adan Canto’s death. Not sure if this is a good idea or not.
Very surprised. The plot is ridiculous. They threaten to kill her, then wind up helping her, over and over again. The character gets involved with criminals for no apparent reason. What is the end game? No wonder the showrunner left.
Must admit I’m a bit shocked with this renewal. The show is not very good this year.
I am thrilled, I was so worried this was cancelled, and I would have at least kinda of understood due to a bunch of factors, but brilliant! Good TV lasts another year

Didn’t think the show would make it without Arman. He was so good. But the show is not bad! So glad that witchy woman was arrested in the end!
Cant armon return having survived the crash due to identifying the wrong body?…an off the side hero or character saves him and he has reconstruction surgery? He returns please. The show was good with the underlying romantic interest between him and Thony .
