The Cleaning Lady Ends Season 3 With Another Devastating Loss — Plus, Grade the Finale

The following post contains major spoilers for The Cleaning Lady‘s Season 3 finale. Proceed with caution!

The Cleaning Lady‘s third season has now been bookended by heartbreak.

Just weeks after Arman perished in a car crash — an inevitable byproduct of star Adan Canto passing away before the season began — the Fox drama concluded Season 3 with, among other events, the shocking death of Arman’s wife, Nadia (played by Eva De Dominici).

Nadia was stabbed by cartel queenpin Ramona in Tuesday’s two-part season ender — and, in a literal twist of the knife, her demise came just as she was finally getting out from under the cartel’s thumb and starting a new life somewhere else. During the finale’s first hour, Thony and Fiona helped Nadia hide from the cartel and got her the resources she’d need for a truly successful fresh start; Thony even revealed to Jorge that Nadia was still alive, and Jorge agreed to transfer Nadia the money (all $40 million of it!) that she would have collected from their joint business venture if her death hadn’t been faked.

With her substantial fortune, a passport with the name Natalie Vasquez and identity-concealing blonde wig in tow, Nadia drove out to an open field with Thony, where she anticipated getting picked up via helicopter for her new life. “I’m glad you’re free,” Thony told Nadia as they shared a sweet hug. “I hope one day, you can be free, too,” Nadia replied. But the helicopter that touched down wasn’t Nadia’s ride, after all. Instead, Ramona stepped out of the chopper, having discovered that Nadia was in fact still alive. Ramona reminded Nadia that she’d given her quite a few chances to be part of the cartel and, by extension, Ramona’s family. But Nadia replied that she had no interest in that life once she knew Ramona was responsible for Arman’s fate.

“You never deserved him. Or me,” Nadia told Ramona, who replied, “At least now you have the guts to say that to my face.” And with that, Ramona drove a knife into Nadia’s stomach, and Thony was pulled away from Nadia as she attempted to save her. (In case there was any doubt that Nadia truly died, her body later showed up on Agent Russo’s doorstep. Yikes.)

Before Nadia bled out, she urged Thony to get revenge on Ramona (“Get her for us. For Arman.”), and Thony did just that in the second hour, with the help of the FBI — and, more surprisingly, Jorge, who was happy to turn on his sister once he discovered that she planned to take his daughter from him and leave him hanging out to dry with the feds.

Ramona was ultimately arrested at a major charity gala she was hosting (which, of course, was just a front for money laundering), leaving Jorge to run the cartel in his sister’s absence. Having worked more closely than ever with Thony during this finale, Jorge offered her a position within the cartel, since she’d no longer have to worry about her or her family’s safety — but Thony declined, of course.

But that does not, apparently, mean that Thony is out of the woods altogether. At the end of the finale, Thony & Co. were at home, rightfully enjoying some hard-earned relaxation — even Camila and her mom, both rescued from the cartel’s workforce, were there — when Luca handed Thony a gift box he’d found addressed to her at the back door. In a separate room, Thony and Fiona opened the box to find a cell phone sitting inside; the attached note read, “Thony, I have a job for you,” and came from a man named Derek, who we’ve yet to see on screen but was repeatedly mentioned by Ramona as one of her close contacts.

“What are you going to do?” Fiona asked Thony, who dropped the phone back in its box as it rang with a call from an unknown number. Thony shook her head and replied, “Not this time.”
