Nikki Glaser Killed It At The Tom Brady Roast With John Wick Efficiency; How The Stage Saved Her Life Literally: The Film That Lit My Fuse

Nikki Glaser video interview on influences

On a mostly male dais for the Netflix live Roast of gridiron GOAT Tom Brady, the post Roast question wasn’t whether Nikki Glaser outperformed her counterparts to deliver one of the most ruthlessly funny segments of a roast in years, but rather which dais member she most heartlessly eviscerated. Was it her daggers about host Kevin Hart’s height? Or attacking Brady’s money-losing foray into Cryptocurrency by saying that even his teammate Rob Gonkowski said, ‘Me know that not real money;’ or ripping roast master Jeff Ross by opining that the only way he could get a woman wet if she helped drag him off the beach and back into the sea? The lines came fast, furious and blue; not one landed flat and no one on the dais was spared, especially the guest of honor — noting he’s famous for owning seven (Super Bowl) rings, Glaser noted he actually has eight, counting the wedding ring his supermodel ex Giselle Bundchen returned to him. And there was much worse.

This column is usually reserved for the formative influences of filmmakers and actors. But since Glaser tomorrow debuts her stand up special Someday You’ll Die tomorrow on HBO, and considering that her performance at the highest rated Roast was reminiscent of Brady’s Super Bowl winning performances, Fuse has made an exception. After all, this is the kind of moment that turns comedians into TV and movie stars.

Glaser is no newcomer; she hosts and is the EP of the reality TV show Lovers and Liars (formerly FBoy Island) and she hosts The Nikki Glaser Podcast, she’s one of the busiest touring comics in the business, and she has played supporting roles in films like Trainwreck. Here, she explains how she prepared for her killer moment — she’s not really a football fan — and how discovering the stand up stage literally saved her life.
