Charles Murray influences video interview

There’s a new sheriff in town for Season Two of the Amazon Prime series Outer Range. Charles Murray has taken the reins of this quirky drama that might be a close cousin to Yellowstone if the Dutton clan also battled such sci-fi elements like the mysterious black void that shows up in the pasture of a ranch run by Royal Abbott (Josh Brolin). Brolin stars alongside Imogen Poots, Lewis Pullman, Tom Pelphry and Isabel Arraiza. Charles Murray comes the drama after a long career as director, writer and EP of series that include Sons of Anarchy, Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Luke Cage, along with directorial efforts that include The Devil You Know and A Cold Hard Truth. Murray cut his teeth at 13 when he picked up a Super 8mm camera and enlisted his pals in Gary, Indiana to act in his films. He eschewed film school, headed to San Francisco to work as a PA while he wrote spec scripts that got passed around Hollywood and got him in the door in Hollywood as a development assistant at Disney, Def Jam Pictures and Magic Johnson Productions. This got him to the doorstep of David Milch, who taught Murray the ropes and helped Murray get his first writing credit on the Stephen Bochco show City of Angels. Sons of Anarchy, Third Watch, Criminal Minds, Castle, Roots and others followed. Find out the influences that helped shape this committed cinephile’s voice.
