Editor’s note: This story was updated to reflect the closure of Virgin’s Times Square store.
Virgin Entertainment Group sold its one-time Megastore space in Union Square to Union Square Development Associates for $4.81 million, according to a public deed filed on Monday.
The store, in a building owned by the Related Companies and located at 842 Broadway, has already had its clearance sale; and landlord Vornado Realty Trust has closed Virgin’s Times Square outpost. (Union Square Development Associates has the same corporate address, according to the deed, as Related.)
According to the Virgin Web site, since “the times they are a’changin’,” Virgin Megastores, owned by a joint venture of Related and Vornado, will no longer exist in the U.S., U.K., Ireland, Spain, Japan and Canada.
For all those disappointed Virgin fans, there are still two Virgin Books and Music stores left in the U.S.: at JFK Airport and Boston-Logan. Then you can take a Virgin Airlines plane wherever your heart desires.
