At least one person diagnosed with coronavirus in Southern California is out of the hospital, and health agencies in Orange and Los Angeles counties say the risk of contracting the virus locally remains low.

In Orange County, a man in his 50s who was diagnosed with coronavirus after traveling to Wuhan, China, was released from the hospital Saturday, Feb. 1. County health officials said Tuesday that the patient is in good condition but remains in isolation.

“The risk of transmission in Orange County continues to be low,” said Jessica Good, public information officer at the OC Health Care Agency, via email.

The condition of another patient, in Los Angeles County, isn’t being shared. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health said Tuesday that it would not disclose any details about specific cases to protect patient privacy, but would disclose new information when necessary to prevent more cases.

The agency said Monday, via email, that the threat of contracting coronavirus in Los Angeles is low.

The novel coronavirus is a member of the coronavirus family that’s a close cousin to the SARS and MERS viruses that have caused outbreaks in the past.

The number of new cases increased to 24,324 on Tuesday, a rise of 3,887 from the previous day. Outside mainland China, at least 180 cases have been confirmed, including two fatalities, one in Hong Kong and another in the Philippines.
