Nightmare Alley 4K Blu-ray

Posted February 10, 2022 04:39 PM by

Fox SearchlightDisney and Searchlight Pictures are preparing 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Guillermo del Toro's Nightmare Alley (2021), starring Bradley Cooper, Cate Blanchett, Rooney Mara, Toni Collette, and David Strathairn. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on March 22.

Description: In Nightmare Alley, Manipulative con artist Stan Carlisle (Bradley Cooper) relies on his smooth-talking ways to make it in the world until his inexorable ambition compels him to seek more. With the aid of the enigmatic Dr. Lilith Ritter (Cate Blanchett), a psychiatrist, Stan amps up his scams to reap substantial rewards. However, as Lilith allows Stan to see her for who she truly is, Stan begins to suspect his new associate may be more powerful than he anticipated. Based on the novel by William Lindsay Gresham. Co-starring Toni Collette and Willem Dafoe.

*Last year, in the United States the Criterion Collection released on Blu-ray Edmund Goulding's original film. Click on the link to see our listing and review of this release.

Special Features and Technical Specs:
  • DOLBY ATMOS AUDIO TRACK (with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track on the Blu-ray)
  • Del Toro's Neo Noir Writer-director Guillermo del Toro and his standout cast decipher the dark, complicated world of Nightmare Alley. The filmmaker reveals how his take on noir is rooted in classic cinema but offers an accessible, modern narrative.
  • Beneath the Tarp Production designer Tamara Deverell and her talented team skillfully delivered both a decaying traveling carnival world and a gilded Art Deco high society with striking visuals. We explore how this design supported del Toro's genre-bending filmmaking.
  • What Exists in the Fringe Costume designer Luis Sequeira unravels his collaboration with Guillermo del Toro and reveals the symbolism that's constantly at play in the film's carefully crafted wardrobe's design.
  • Optional English SDH, Spanish, and French subtitles for the main feature

No B&W; version and only three featuretteshmmm. Im just gonna expect Im gonna get double-dipped on this eventually but Im not gonna miss out on this steelbook.

Think I'll wait and see if they include the B&W; version in a later edition. I hear it's gorgeous.

You guys will be waiting forever for a double feature. Disney has no interest in releasing the old Fox catalog any time soon, and Criterion has the license to the 1947 version, probably for the next few years even if they don't renew it.

Disney, please start adding Dolby Vision to your 4K discs again.

Also, 5.1 on the Blu-ray instead of 7.1? Interesting choice there.

Gunsnroses092789: They're referring to the black and white version of THIS film. Not the original, but a regraded version of del Toro's.

Gunsnroses092789, I believe those referring to a BW version are referring to the release of a BW version of this same movie (GDT's version), not the classic version.

Its a small miracle this got a 4K disc release at all after how badly it bombed at the box office. For those waiting for a BW 4K disc version you will probably never get it. I can see it becoming available on streaming (or years later if it gets licensed by a boutique label) but another 4K disc release of this by Disney? Chances are slim to none. Id recommend picking this up and maybe if it sells very very well we might get the BW version years later. But that wont happen if people ignore this release in the hope we get a special edition with BW version in disc.

Nice! Im glad this is getting the 4k treatment. Although I would have liked to have seen the B&W; version included. I own the original 1948 version on Criterion and its already gorgeous and in B&W.; What I think is special about this version is Del Toro's color treatment and cinematography. Both versions of the story or great.

Someone alert me when the B&W; version gets released. Still, either way you slice it this an excellent movie; My favorite Del Toro since Blade II.

Just pre-ordered the steelbook since they seem to sell out before the street date. I loved the original with Tyrone Power and I love the remake...although it is darker than the 1947 version. And the ending is a gut punch. I would love to own the B&W; version as well and hope for a Blu-ray release down the line.

@jimryan this isnt a remake. its an adaptation of the book, which was adapted previously in 1947.

I saw this in B&W; and didnt know there was a color version released!
It was absolutely gorgeous, and though I have the Crigerion of the first adaptation, I thoroughly enjoyed this one.
And I would give the cinematography Oscar to the B&W; without hesitation.

Is the b&w; version going to get a future release or is this it?
