The Crown is not a movie. It's exceptional television that takes full advantage of the narrative structure and scope the medium provides.

Nuanced and powerful dialogue runs throughout the series, and in the hands of the stellar cast, it makes for indelible moments.

The Crown remains, by far, the best soap opera on television.

Morgan's writing and the new cast's work are also joined by the series's consistently gorgeous mixture of direction, cinematography, and period costume design.

Unlike the monarch it tracks, The Crown is not particularly nuanced in how it wants us to feel or respond to these historical moments and the various royals who get the spotlight during each installment. And yet, it's incredibly effective.
