Doctor Who and The Hobbit star Sylvester McCoy has just revealed at MCM Scotland Comic Con that he has landed potentially ongoing role in the Netflix SF series Sense 8, the show co-created by The Matrix directors The Wachowskis and Babylon 5 mastermind J Michael Straczynski.
To be fair, McCoy didn’t actually name the series himself. What he said while being interviewed on the MyM BUZZ livestream stage was, “I’ve just finished doing a series for Netflix, which I can’t really tell you about. Except it came out last year and it’s got 8.2 on IMDB. It was very well received. And I play in three or four episodes of the next one that’s coming out… and they’ve signed me up for the year after and the year after… if they want me.”
Now, that could be a number of Netflix shows, but it turns out that McCoy’s agency isn’t quite so tight-lipped about his involvement. A quick Google on “Sylvester McCoy” and “Netflix” takes you to his United Agents talent agency where it reveals he’s been cast in Sense8 as the intriguingly named, “The Old Man Of Hoy” (which if you didn’t know is also the name of a very tall rock stack in the Orkney Islands).
We assume the Wachowskis haven’t asked him to appear in a naked orgy scene, like in one of the more memorably gratuitous moments of the first season.
But it is the Wachowskis so you never know.
Here’s the full interview, in which McCoy also talks up his upcoming horror film appearance in Slumber.
