Liza Weil Returns to Gilmore Girls

Gilmore Girls: Liza Weil Set to Return as Paris in Netflix Revival

It’s official: We’ll always have Paris.

Liza Weil is formally set to reprise her role as scholarly spitfire Paris Geller in Netflix’s forthcoming Gilmore Girls revival, TVLine has confirmed.

Earlier in the week, Gilmore grande dame Kelly Bishop told me that series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino had written Paris into the revival scripts. However, at the time, Weil — who’s currently a series regular on ABC’s How to Get Away With Murder — had not officially closed a deal to return.

“Paris is a hoot,” Bishop raved of Rory’s bestie. “It’s unbelievable what Amy has written for Paris. People are going to have so much fun with it.”

On Saturday, Weil herself announced at the aTVfest in Atlanta that Paris would indeed be part of the four-episode continuation, which started shooting on Tuesday in Los Angeles. I’m told Weil will be featured in two of the four 90-minute installments.

The list of Gilmore vets returning for the revival also includes Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel, Kelly Bishop, Scott Patterson, Matt Czuchry, Yanic Truesdale, Sean Gunn and Keiko Agena.

  1. Oh, thank goodness. Forget Rory’s boyfriends, it’s Lane and Paris that I want back, and I’m getting them! I’m even more excited for this now. Thanks so much for the scoop!

    • Stacy says:

Agreed – Paris ranks far above any of the boyfriends! Although I do look forward to seeing Matt Czuchry just because I think he’s a good actor.

  2. sportylady says:

So, will Paris be an MD or an attorney?

    • lkh says:

Seems like after all the acceptances, she decided on medicine. If she went to med school, she would barely be done with her residence by now. With Paris, maybe both-that would be an ugly combination.

This clearly raises the issue of Lisa’s character on How to Get Away with Murder–Bonnie. Since HTGAWM has a large cast, and killed off (by Bonnie) a regular at the end of it’s first season, Bonnie could either die or go to jail. Lisa’s return to the Gilmore Girls will definitely spike up speculation about Bonnie’s future.

    • Tom says:

Actually, not really. HTGAWM returns with a fairly short set of episodes (six, I believe) to end its second season. As it returns in less than a week, the majority (if not all) of those episodes have already been filmed. So there is likely little to no conflict between the two.

    • Mantra720 says:

We’re in 2016 now where actors can play multiple roles and aren’t stuck to one-studio deals. HTGAWM has only 15 episodes per season by design specifically at Viola’s request to allow their actors to easily pursue other projects, and shooting is just about done of S2 of HTGAWM, so the GG schedule will barely interfere in any conceivable way with any of Liza’s other projects.

Basically, if this is an attempt to fear-monger about Bonnie’s fate, it failed. Let’s enjoy the shows and be happy she’s on two great shows, please.

    • Dude says:

God I hope she’s killed off. As much as I love Paris, Bonnie is a horrid, horrid character. She’s the worst.

  4. jj says:

YAY! This is fantastic news! Here’s hoping danny strong returns as well, would love for paris and doyle to still be together

  5. Steven says:

    Lurky McChurchmouse! YAS

  6. Katie says:

OMG YESSSS! This is the best thing I’ve ever heard! Paris has been my favorite since forever.

  7. Babybop says:

PLEASE let her be married to Doyle. I need Paris/Doyle in my life.

    • Lauren says:

I have been wondering about Doyle too. Danny Strong has become such a big time Hollywood player with the screenplays he’s written. And a little show called Empire. I could see him being legitimately too busy. He always speaks about GG with such affection though. I could see him making a cameo.

  8. Juliana says:

YAY!!! please, any word about Milo??? I’m dying here

    • Hso says:

My poor, fragile Literati heart is actually hoping to only get a Milo confirmation later on in the production schedule – it would mean Jess is there for the later, consequential episodes – which could be good news. I’m just hoping that there WILL be a confirmation.

  9. happy fan says:

OHMY, Paris was always my favorite, thank god!

  10. JosiahBartlet4President says:

    Yay!
I guess we have to be thankful that almost all the stars of the show are returning.
Still sad Ed Herrmann can’t be there. And totally perplexed by Melissa’s absence.

  11. Larry says:

    I want Jess and Sookie!

  12. T.w.123 says:

Confirmation on Paris, Lane, and Logan, so now I’m all set!! Let’s go Stars Hollow! I’d still love to see Melissa McCarthy, but I’m not holding my breath.

  13. Cordelia says:

Fabulous!!!! I love me some Paris

  14. Katie says:

Any word on if Vanessa Marano will be returning to play April?

    • brandydanforth81 says:

      I. Doubt it.Shes currently filming s5 of Switched at Birth.Plus April is the most hated character why would she be wanted back?

  15. GraceM says:

Only two episodes? Well it’s better then none and I can always hope she ends up in all four.

  16. Nicole says:

    This is awesome!

Now, will someone please put us out of our misery and let us know if we will see Jess again!
