The Beaver Trailer

It is time. This is the trailer I've been waiting to see for a long time. Summit Entertainment has debuted the first official trailer for The Beaver, directed by Jodie Foster, and starring Mel Gibson as yes, a severely depressed guy who wears a beaver puppet on his hand. But don't judge a book by its cover - this is a trailer you must see for yourself, thankfully in HD from Apple. In addition to Gibson, this also stars Jodie Foster, Jennifer Lawrence and Anton Yelchin. Not only does this look a lot more emotional and dramatic than I was expecting, but the entire cast looks amazing, like this might be one of next year's highlights. Watch below!

Watch the first official trailer for Jodie Foster's The Beaver, from YouTube:

You can also watch The Beaver official trailer in High Definition on Apple

The Beaver is directed by Oscar winning actress Jodie Foster, who previously directed the films Little Man Tate and Home for the Holidays in the early 90s. The highly acclaimed Black List screenplay was the feature debut of writer Kyle Killen. A month or so ago (via EW) the MPAA gave The Beaver a PG-13 rating, meaning it's finished and Summit Entertainment, the studio distributing the film in the US, is finally ready to release it. Deadline reported yesterday that this would be arriving in theaters sometime in Spring 2011, so expect to hear an exact release date soon, as I'm sure they're interested in hearing buzz from this first. Thoughts?

It looks fantastic!

All they have to do is wait a few months and they can use Jennifer Lawrence's eventual Oscar nomination to advertise this as well.

It looks good, but I'm always concerned when they reveal that much in the trailer. We'll see.

Yet another "trailer" that shows major scene in movie. Why the hell do they always have to reveal the WHOLE damn movie in trailers these days?! I've just seen the movie in under 3 minutes.

12

looks great. it looks like a decent drama with some good humor thrown in.........plus, i don't think a movie can be bad with gibson and foster in it.

Looks great! Gibson always surprises me with his versatility...so many diverse roles that he is good in...and with Jodie Foster as well.

The Credenza Kid on Dec 3, 2010

14

In like sin! The trailer did show too much but was anyone honestly surprised at what was shown? the film is pretty damn predictable...still its Gibson and Foster with Yelchin so yeah I'm in!

Xerxex on Dec 3, 2010

15

Looks amazing. Gibson is a brilliant artist, if you cant appreciate that, than you might as well stick to TMZ infatuations instead of having an interest in film.

Yep on Dec 3, 2010

16

I was instantly sold when I heard the beaver talk. Also: Mel Gibson is a god. A crazy, vengeful, artistic god.

Cracky on Dec 3, 2010

17

In reality if a grown man with mental health problems started talking through a beaver, he'd get sectioned. He wouldn't be running a company making toys, he's be on medication in a hospital. Althoug, saying that Mel Gibson, who is clearly mentally ill is out there making films, so maybe I'm the one whos crazy. They actually showed the end of the film where he goes home after patching things up in the trailer? The more film makers think the movie going public are dumb, thedumber they become. Fuck this.

Crapola on Dec 3, 2010

18

The trailer shows too much. But I love both Jodie and Mel. This is going to be great.

Not a film I was particularly interested in going to see but now thanks to the trailer, I don't need to.

Chris on Dec 4, 2010

20

Very clever marketing to exploit the news/gossip around Gibson. Actually attempting to confuse Gibson's media persona and this character while simultaneously manipulating the viewer to garner guilt and sympathy for him. Very shrewd. Baudrillard's theory-- proven right again.

Dougo162 on Dec 4, 2010

21

Fucking genius.

Robbie on Dec 4, 2010

22

Although this looks awesome it's a shame they show so much of the movie. I really like the Gibson/Foster combo! Mel's a genius actor and I really don't care about the stuff that's being said about him. It think it's sad that people judge him to such a large extent on the basis of what's being reported in the media. It only shows them to be very shallow...

Leave it to Jodie Foster to make a movie where someone has their hand stuffed in a beaver for 2 hours.

Am I missing something? Did you guys all go see this already? You seem to know a lot about what the trailer shows compared to the movie as a whole.

Looks good. But Frightened Rabbit (the band who plays the song in the trailer) can make anything look/sound good.

Better than I expected. But the trailer showed too much. I'll still watch it, though.

daniel on Dec 4, 2010

34

Ha Ha Ha!!!#27 that was f*ckin' funny! Made me laugh. I know Gibson has personally got a bad rap but I really like him as an actor. I think his quirky craziness is one of the reasons he's so good in the roles he chooses. Thank God he's an actor. Could you imagine if he wasn't? You can actually see the slight insanity in his eyes. This movie looks like a good family film and we need those every once in a while.

arjones on Dec 4, 2010

35

@23 Surely people are judging him on his actions? Personally, I'd consider it more 'shallow' to excuse all that simply because you enjoy the entertainment he's involved in.

Chris on Dec 4, 2010

36

so roman polanski can drug/rape a 13 year old girl, flee to france and still be considered an artist while gibson is made out to be a villain because he said things? where are the priorities people?

xanatos on Dec 4, 2010

37

@ xanatos...couldn't agree with you more. Forgive them both. We haven't walked a mile in their shoes...they aren't for us to judge anyways, we all fuck up, big time, all the time. This movie looks great. I'm glad Summit decided to stop being a bunch of pussies and start pushing for this. Now let's get a US release date!

LINKFX on Dec 4, 2010

38

I think all the critics heard that Mel was going to do a movie where he had his hand stuffed in a beaver, and now their disappointed that it's not a porno...

The Credenza Kid on Dec 4, 2010

39

Well I saw the whole movie in 2min and 25sec.

I have no name on Dec 4, 2010

40

@ LINKFX. I'd love to walk a mile in Mels shoes, it might take a few hours and I may vomit on myself, but I'm sure it'd be fun. But Mel likes to drive when he's drunk, so technically I wouldn't be walking. I think saying that you are going to hire a team of black men to rape a woman you know is totally chill and often I refer to ladies as sugar tits, I mean Polanski too, Ghost Writer was a really good film and if I had a teenage daughter, I'd let him pound her senseless just because of that fact. It's really a shame I only have a 3 year old son, I was actually saving him for Michael jackson, but he went and died, damn you god for taking such a talented man, I wouldn't even have tried to sue him if he showed me a moonwalk. Sometimes, people forget that having people around you constantly sucking your balls all day can really mess with your head, all they really need is someone to say, 'Here mate, your being a dick'. That's what happens in real life.

Crapola on Dec 4, 2010

41

I like the trailer. A sublime journey into a man's psyche through the antics of a puppet. This is good. Mel and Jodie look to have brought their A-game and Anton Yelchin is a plus. I CAN separate the man from the so-called (according to the B.S. media) trash talker. I am checkin' this flick out!!!!!! 🙂

I love Jodie Foster. When I'm sittin' around drinkin' beer with the guys and we start talking about what movie actresses we think are purty, I always mention Jodie Foster. I always get laughed at, but I think she is a great looking woman. Not a bad actress, either. That being said, I do wish someone else was playing the male lead in this. I really don't want to give that guy any of my money.

After this trailer what I REALLY want to see is Mel Gibson in a Guy Richie movie! Who's with me??

Beavaah on Dec 5, 2010

57

This does look terrible, if it was a comedy with a little drama thrown in fine, but this movies takes itself too seriously. I was looking forward to this but not anymore.

58

Looks great but, I feel like I just watched the whole movie. That trailer gave away too much.

Dave on Dec 5, 2010

A lot of people here are saying the trailer has told the whole movie. You can assume that, but Assume = ASS of U and ME, and no one knows this for sure until it is released.

although it may seem like they did, really, they didn't show the whole movie. just some of the more marketable plot points. please have no fear, the movie has a lot more to offer.

love #64 and #60 🙂 Well, the timing is fantastic because of the situation he is in, so that might help him! Anybody thinks like me that the beaver sounds like Michael Caine? loll! Anyway, now that Jodie Foster sexuality is out, I'm sorry, she is not convincing as an hetero anymore...

I am... on Dec 6, 2010

65

I'm not sure why this is a "must watch". Are you being sponsored by The Beaver? Do you have a family member that's a producer? This movie looks horrendous and Jodie Foster, as usual, looks horrible. I'm over the whole Mel Gibson thing, especially when he's picked to play a part in a movie that everyone is going to is "so him..." Blegghh..

Dennis on Dec 6, 2010

66

The ending is inspired by the movie Saw.

KONG on Dec 6, 2010

68

I actually love it when they show the whole movie in the trailer....So, I liked this film, all 2 minutes and 25 seconds of it. Most movies should be edited this way in fact. Can u imagine spending 2hrs watching Jodie Foster and Mel Gibson as a screwed up married couple? No chance, but come on over and watch this excellent fully edited version and you will enjoy it, I promise. Well done guys, like Cliff Notes, but fun!

This looks great, and will definitely go and see it. As for all you hypocrites out there who say "They will never look at Mel the same way again" etc etc etc yadda yadda yadda It must be brilliant to be so perfect, to have never made a mistake in your life!!!! Catch your bloody selves on, the guy is only human, everyone deserves a chances in life, cause guess what, were all human, well some of us are, and that being said we make mistakes all the time, the maturity comes when we accept this part of our nature and move on, move past it!!! If truth be told I feel sorry for you all, for if you live your life by the same standards you judge Mel by, well your prob destined to be alone as no one on this planet could possibly live up to your high ideals!!!!!

Dar-El on Dec 7, 2010

71

I like Mel Gibson as an actor so I am looking forward to his normal great performance. He has personal problems in his life but that doesnt change how I like his movie performances. If you dont like him----for what ever reason------dont go, but we dont care about what you like or dislike. Keep it to yourself. RHM

randall on Dec 7, 2010

The fact a narrator is needed to explain the trailer says a lot. The acting is self conscious, the plot appears to be predictable. Why bother?

Why don’t we make secret tape recordings of all the times these Mel haters get extremely upset but said EXACTLY what they were thinking at the time. Then, we’ll “leak” those tapes to their family, their friends, and anyone else who is involved in their day-to-day worlds. They’re such better people than Mel Gibson, it shouldn’t be that awful…should it? Judging from their posts, I’ll wager that next to the Mel Haters, Gibson is a saint.

KittyCt34 on Dec 11, 2010

77

HHMM, do I watch the Preview and get the whole story in 45 seconds, or do I read these posts that offer opinions of Mel Gibson's personal life and judge the movie based on what is essentially hearsay about a man I will never meet........ I am sure the movie is good, Mel's performance in the Movie Tim shows he can act these kinds of roles. oh and to Crapola - In reality if a grown man with mental health problems started talking through a beaver, and he had as much money as Mel Gibson he'd get called eccentric. besides that, it's a Fictional Movie, if its reality you want, get out from behind your keyboard

Rodger on Dec 19, 2010

78

Doesn't this remind anyone of "Lars and the Real Girl"?? Instead of a doll, it's a beaver. It goes after the same emotional heartstrings. But I still think "Beaver" is worth a look, just to see Mel working that puppet!

Kiki M on Dec 21, 2010

79

It looks like some sort of joke. Surely this is a practical joke and the movie will air on April 1st. Just totally weird.

I think Jodie looks great, she's aging well and I love to see her as someones mom. I'll pass though, I'll wait to see it some other time.
