Set in Canada in 1997, the new true crime drama Under the Bridge explores the real-life murder of 14-year-old Reena Virk at the hands of her classmates.

The show is based on Rebecca Godfrey’s book of the same name and stars Lily Gladstone and Riley Keough in lead roles. The teenage cast includes Vritika Gupta, Chloe Guidry, Javon “Wanna” Walton, and Izzy G.

Quinn Shephard and Samir Mehta serve as the showrunners.

The first two episodes of the television adaptation premiered April 17 with new episodes airing on Wednesday until the finale on May 29.

Decider’s Joel Keller praised the show in his review, writing, “Under The Bridge has more than enough complications to make for compelling drama, and the first episode gives viewers just enough information about the case to hook them in without getting them frustrated.”

Wondering where the show was filmed? Here’s everything you need to know.

Where Was Under the Bridge Filmed?

Under the Bridge was shot in and around Vancouver in British Columbia, Canada — not far from where the real-life crime took place in Saanich, British Columbia. According to IMDb, filming locations include Vancouver, White Studios Fraserwood in Richmond, and Allied Shipyard in North Vancouver.

White Studios Fraserwood is located roughly 40 minutes from Downtown Vancouver and has five sound stages. Several popular works have been filmed at White Studios, including Deadpool, The Handmaid’s Tale, and Supergirl.

Scenes in the series that took place near a body of water were filmed at the Allied Shipyard, which has also served as the set for episodes of The Flash, Arrow, and Prison Break.

Per Meaww, Under the Bridge was also shot at Colquitz Middle School, which served as the backdrop for the many high school scenes.

In an interview with Shephard and Mehta, the two spoke about how filming the show near where Virk’s murder occurred added depth to the story. “Just shooting the show so close to where it happened in Vancouver, almost every week, we encountered somebody who had some personal connection,” Mehta said. “In the process, I feel like [the show] started becoming imbued with that local perspective because we were surrounded by people who lived this.”

They were also in connection with the late teen’s father Manjit Virk, who Mehta said was a ” big part of the telling of the story.”

Under the Bridge is streaming on Hulu.
