Everybody’s in LA—John Mulaney’s bonkers experiment of a late-night talk show for Netflix—was only ever meant to be six episodes long. But the comedian isn’t completely ruling out bringing the series, or something like it, back.
In a new interview with IndieWire, Mulaney explained that Netflix’s willingness to let him assume total creative control of the project was what initially attracted him to the opportunity.
“Netflix wanted a show every night, coinciding with the [Netflix Is a Joke] festival,” Mulaney said. “They didn’t know what they wanted. They brought it to me and said, ‘Would you want to produce this? And be some part of it?’ And it was like that: ‘We don’t know what this is. Do you want to do it?’ [It was] that open.”
Equally interesting to Mulaney was the project’s brevity. “I was intrigued by six live nights, the run of it, and the finite amount of time,...

Things got even more personal than usual in Wednesday’s season finale of Sight Unseen, during which Tess’ trusty visual assistant Sunny took on an unexpected new role — murder suspect.
Sunny, whose real name is Sunita Sharma, has apparently been a fugitive this whole time, one who stood accused of killing a man named Rigby Daniels several years prior. Now, Rigby and Sunny had a complicated relationship, to say the least. They were in love, but he was also her professor — her married professor. Messy? Yes. But motive for murder? Despite all of the evidence pointing directly at Sunny, Tess...

The “curse” is broken on Jeopardy! Throughout the season, fans have noticed that even the most successful champions haven’t been able to get past five wins — until now, that is. On Wednesday night’s episode, Adriana Harmeyer became a six-game champion in a stunning runaway, leading one former “curse” victim to cheer for her success. Harmeyer, an archivist from West Lafayette, Indiana, came into the game with a five-day cash winnings total of $116,200 and was the third five-day champion of the season, following Alison Betts and Amy Hummel. She faced a new pair of challengers in Allee Mead, a writer from Grand Forks, North Dakota, and Kyle Sorlie Titlow, a geographer from Washington, D.C. In the first round, Harmeyer had some solid competition from Mead — the latter was just one answer shy of tying her correct answers score of 10. Ahead of Double Jeopardy, Harmeyer had $5,800 to Mead’s $5,400. Double Jeopardy,...

Bowen Yang isn’t interested in rehashing the Shane Gillis-Saturday Night Live saga—so please stop asking him about it.
Yang addressed the topic when he and fellow SNL star Kenan Thompson sat down with Variety to discuss the just-completed 49th season of the sketch show.
On September 12, 2019, Gillis was announced as a new featured player for SNL‘s then-upcoming 45th season. Just hours later, a video from the previous year of Gillis using an Asian slur resurfaced. Soon after, Vulture published an article that detailed what appeared to be a pattern of Gillis making racist, homophobic, and sexist comments. Four days after NBC’s initial announcement, and before he ever even appeared on the show, Gillis was fired.
Gillis’ hiring coincided with that of Yang, who is gay and SNL‘s first Chinese-American cast member.

One of Jimmy Fallon’s guests on Wednesday June 12th is someone who should be plenty familiar to the host and his audience—Questlove.
The Tonight Show bandleader is set to make the short walk from his drumkit to the guest chair to promote Hip-Hop Is History, which will hit bookstores on Tuesday.
The new book sees Questlove, who grew up as an obsessive fan of the then-emerging genre and ultimately became a six-time Grammy Award–winning musician himself, trace the first half-century of hip-hop as only he can.
In recent years Questlove has emerged as America’s unofficial historian of hip-hop, and of music in general. Hip-Hop Is History is a follow-up to his 2021 bestseller Music Is History, and he famously won an Oscar in 2022 for his documentary film Summer of Soul.

Ryan Anderson, Gypsy Rose Blanchard‘s estranged husband, is speaking out about what it’s like to watch his marriage take such a significant step in Gypsy Rose: Life After Lockup, while knowing what would come later. According to him, the experience is “bittersweet.” Anderson, 38, appears in the new Lifetime docuseries, the premiere of which documented the moments leading up to her release from prison for the second-degree murder of her mother, Clauddinnea “Dee Dee” Blanchard. The sweet part is that he believes he’s being fairly represented on-screen, telling TV Insider, “When the cameras came on, I didn’t say, ‘Oh, I’m gonna flip a switch and be something else. People are going to see me as who I am, very genuine, and the insides of our relationship. They filmed a lot.” In the premiere, which aired Monday, Anderson was showing escorting Blanchard from prison to visit her family in Kansas City,...

After Midnight might seem like an off-the-cuff show, but Taylor Tomlinson revealed the panelists get a bit of help to set them up for success.
Tomlinson participated in a Reddit Ama on Tuesday, where she fielded questions about her career as a comedian and After Midnight. One fan was curious about how much information (if any) the show’s panelists are given ahead of time in order to think about their responses.
“We have an amazing writers room full of hilarious comedians who help prep all of the panelists so they go into the show with great jokes prepared,” Tomlinson replied. “There’s still plenty of room to improvise and make jokes off-the-cuff, too though. And certain games specifically call for improv.”

Donald Trump said the quiet part out loud when he promised that, if he is reelected president in November, he’ll use the justice department to take down his enemies. And Jimmy Kimmel is not wrong to imagine that he might be near the very top of that list. So he used part of the 20 minutes he had to sit down with Vice President Kamala Harris Tuesday night to ask a very important question: should he be worried?
“Trump has made it pretty plain that he’s planning to go after his ‘enemies’ or whatever you want to call them,” Kimmel said. “Realistically, what can a president do to, umm, say a talk show host that has been making fun of him… What can he actually do to, like, oh, for example, me?”
While Harris understood that the question was asked partly in jest, she doesn’t seem to think...

Family Feud does it again. Longtime host Steve Harvey was silenced by a contestant’s answer on the game show’s June 4 episode. Between contestants Jarrell and Jenny, the buzzer question delivered by Harvey was: “You know you shouldn’t, but name someone you have sexy dreams about.” Jarrell buzzed first – almost immediately – with the answer: “My aunt.” As the audience erupted, Harvey looked at Jarrell with little to no humor behind his eyes, saying nothing except looking expectantly at Jarrell to explain himself. No words were needed. Jarrell, in an attempt to explain his answer, simply stated: “You said, ‘You shouldn’t.'” Though the audience was laughing, Harvey remained silent, not even bothering to humor Jarrell with a response. Harvey turned apprehensively to the board, inquiring if “aunt” was a correct answer. As the three on stage looked to the board, the buzzer confirmed that “aunt” was in fact not a correct answer,...
