The Defenders is now less than a month away and, while we do know some details, much is still shrouded in mystery.
One of the queries we have about the show is how it will incorporate Elektra. After she died in Daredevil’s second season and her body was stolen by the Hand, transported to the coffin they had been overzealously protecting for half of the season, it was clear her role wasn’t coming to an end anytime soon. Since then, we’ve gotten brief hints and teases that Elektra was returning to the universe in some capacity.

During The Defenders’ panel at San Diego Comic-Con today, actress Elodie Young and newcomer Sigourney Weaver both affirmed this will be a different version of the character than the one we’ve seen in Daredevil so far.
“Elektra is an amnesiac and doesn’t remember who she is or anything about her past life,” Young said. “She’s trained by Alexandra (played by Weaver) to be some kind of weapon. And I guess the question for my character is how much of the Elektra that we know still remains.”
Weaver jumped in to add a few more details about Alexandra’s on-screen relationship with Elektra, claiming that it was the strangest relationship she’s ever had, both on and off-screen.
“My character is a woman of many dealings,” Weaver teased during the panel. “I spend a lot of time with Elektra and their relationship is certainly one of the most unusual that I’ve ever experienced. It’s very, very strange.”
Later in the panel, Marvel and Netflix debuted the first episode of The Defenders and, although we don’t see much of Elektra and Alexandra together, there is one scene that supports what Weaver and Young were getting at.
