What is the process after an application is submitted?

Please note we cannot respond to every application.

  1. Our HR team reviews applications to identify qualified candidates.
  2. Qualified candidates are invited to do a telephone screening.
  3. The most qualified candidates will be invited to an in-person interview. Common Sense typically conducts 2 to 3 rounds of in-person interviews in the hiring process.
  4. References will be solicited from our final candidates. (Please note that some positions will require additional background checks.)
  5. A formal written job offer will be made to our top final candidate.

As Director of Product Design, you are a design-centric leader responsible for bringing exceptional human-centered digital experiences to life. Thoughtful, cohesive, accessible, and intuitive design is central to our mission of making the digital world a better place for all kids. 

Media Reviewer - Books (Contractor) - San Francisco, CA (remote available)

Book reviewers will use their critical eye, publishing industry expertise, and passion for equity to review children’s and young-adult books for parents through a child-development and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) lens. With excellent writing, editing, and communication skills, reviewers will produce anywhere from one to four (or more!) reviews per month. Work may also include updates to previously published reviews. We are committed to hiring reviewers from diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and lived experiences.

Media Reviewer - Podcasts (Contractor) - San Francisco, CA (remote available)

The equity-focused podcast reviewer will use their subject-matter expertise to consume, evaluate, and write about entertainment content for parents through the lenses of child development, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). With excellent writing, editing, and communication skills, this contract role will produce anywhere from one to 10 new podcast reviews per month. Work may also include updates to previously published reviews. We are committed to hiring reviewers from diverse backgrounds and perspectives. 

Media Reviewer - TV (Contractor) - San Francisco, CA (remote available)

The TV reviewer will use their subject-matter expertise to watch, evaluate, and write about TV/streaming content for parents through a child development and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) lens. With excellent writing, editing, and communication skills, this contractor will produce anywhere from 4 to 10 new reviews per month. Work may also include updates to older reviews. We are committed to hiring reviewers from diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and lived experiences.

Media Reviewer - Video Games (Contractor) - San Francisco, CA (remote available)

Video game reviewers will use their subject-matter expertise, critical eye, and passion for equity to consume, evaluate, and write about entertainment content for parents through a child-development and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) lens. With excellent writing, editing, and communication skills, reviewers will produce anywhere from 1 to 10 new video game reviews per month. QA Engineer - San Francisco, CA (remote available)

We are seeking a highly motivated QA engineer who can create and maintain automated tests for our flagship Common Sense Media website and API as well as serve as a manual QA black box tester. This position requires you to collaborate with various people across the organization, although primarily you will be working with the engineering and product teams. We are looking for someone who is a self-starter, very detail-oriented, and proactive, can work well independently as well as collaboratively with the full team and is a strong driver for results and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in QA automation with demonstrated technical leadership and interpersonal skills. 

Senior Developer - San Francisco, CA (remote available)

We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Developer to operate as a full-stack engineer and join a team of developers, QA engineers, product managers, and UX designers who work closely with UI designers led by a creative director. This role will help build and maintain all things client-facing and will help translate our organizational and customer needs into functionally seamless, and appealing, interactive applications. Creating a great user experience is a focal point of this role, and the ideal candidate is curious about new digital technologies and stays abreast of coding best practices, but there are also likely to be back-end tasks and problems to solve. This role will collaborate with a top-notch team of developers on a feature-rich, responsive site and help build personalized and social site experiences to connect members with each other and the rest of the world.

Senior Manager, Business Development - San Francisco, CA (remote available)

We are seeking an experienced, talented, and dynamic Senior Manager, Business Development to support new business opportunities and help forge partnerships in the media, tech, and edtech spaces to broaden our distribution footprint and generate substantial revenue for the organization.

Our innovative funding model combines earned income and philanthropic sources of revenue. Common Sense Media's age-appropriate media reviews (of movies, TV shows, games, apps, books, and websites) and parenting advice are licensed to leading media and technology companies that include Comcast, Target, Sky, Apple, and Vudu.com, among many others. Our Digital Citizenship Curriculum and education resources can be found on Nearpod and Learning.com, and our education platform is a go-to resource for teachers seeking guidance for using technology in the classroom.

Senior Manager, Partnerships - San Francisco, CA (remote available)

We are seeking a Senior Manager, Partnerships to manage a stable of strategic revenue-generating partners in the media entertainment space. The ideal candidate has a strong track record of building relationships and managing complex projects with many moving parts, a strong knowledge of the media and tech landscape, creative thinking skills, and a collaborative work style. The Senior Manager, Partnerships will continually seek to leverage Common Sense expertise and resources to create meaningful in-platform experiences that drive tangible business value to partners and help them realize the value of partnering with Common Sense. The Senior Manager, Partnerships will collaborate internally and externally with a range of stakeholders, including editorial, marketing, and product teams, to bring partnership ideas to life.

Senior Policy Associate - Washington, D.C. (remote during the COVID-19 pandemic) 

Common Sense is looking for a senior policy associate to help manage Common Sense's tech and kids advocacy agenda on Capitol Hill and within the states. This position is primarily focused on federal policy support but, as needed, also will support the advocacy team on state and international advocacy.
