Disney seems to have another hit show on their hands, as their new series Loki had the most-watched premiere of any Marvel show streaming on Disney+. Consisting of six total episodes, the first of which premiered on the streaming service yesterday, each new episode releases every Wednesday until July 14. The series stars Tom Hiddleston as everybody's favorite God of Mischief along with a whole host of other Marvel comics characters.

After stealing the Tesseract during Avengers: Endgame, an alternate timeline version of Loki is captured by a mysterious bureaucratic organization know as the Time Variance Authority. The TVA exists outside the realms of time and space and monitors the disrupted timeline. They give Loki an ultimatum, either help fix the timeline in order to stop a greater threat, or get completely erased from all of existence. Time travel in Endgame ultimately created a few MCU plot holes that left lingering questions; however, the first episode of Loki quickly fixed them, essentially confirming that they didn't really matter. It seems that fixing plot holes was not the only thing that the new Disney+ show did right.

In a Fandom post to Twitter, data shows that Loki was the most-watched premiere of any Marvel show on Disney+. According to the data, the first episode of Loki was streaming by 890,000 U.S. households. That greatly surpasses The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which received streams from 759,000 households, as well as the 655,000 households that streamed WandaVision. Though these numbers do not account for mobile views, they still offer some great insight into the latest MCU show's popularity. View the full tweet below:

One potential reason as to why Loki has performed so well is due in part to the popularity and praise Hiddleston has received as playing the God of Mischief across so many different films. His performance as the character has developed a beloved fan base that makes him a much higher profile star than the stars of the previous Disney+ Marvel shows. In addition, the inclusion of an A-list star like Owen Wilson in Loki also created a lot of interest for audiences who may have otherwise passed on the series. Another possibility for the new show's performance is the move from releasing on Fridays to Wednesdays, which could have provided a boost in viewership since most people are more likely to be at home and watching TV on weekdays. Beyond the amount of streams it received, Loki has also been successful in another way.

Like its Disney+ predecessors, Loki has thus far been a big hit with critics, earning near-universal acclaim from all major outlets. Fans also took delight in how the show set up and explained Marvel's Multiverse, which has been teased for years now, making the show much more consequential to the MCU host of movies. With the successful premiere of Loki, Marvel is that much closer to fully expanding their diverse universe of characters.
