The latest Covid-19 surge in the U.S. has left few corners of the country untouched. And with more than 100,000 cases reported each day for the past month, the chances of encountering someone who has contracted the virus are increasing.

As with people and age groups, the coronavirus hasn’t hit states or regions in the same way. The Midwest bore the early brunt of a fall surge, as temperatures fell, people moved indoors and pandemic fatigue—and in some cases skepticism or denial of the virus—set in.
