Producer & Co-Owner, Push-It Productions

Page Hurowitz

Page Hurwitz began her career as a stand-up comedian at the legendary Josie’s Cabaret in San Francisco’s Castro district. She spent the next several years performing at clubs and colleges, at the Just For Laughs Comedy Festival, and on Showtime and Logo. Her half-hour special for Logo, the only major LGBTQ television outlet, has the distinction of being the first original content aired on the channel.

Since then Hurwitz has gone on to become a respected writer and television producer known for creating inspired comedy formats and for championing diverse comedy talent.  In fact, it was Page Hurwitz who put Amy Schumer on television for the first time. When she was producing (and personally casting) Last Comic Standing, Hurwitz brought more women, people of color, and LGBTQ comedians to the show than in all prior years combined.

She discovered and sparked the careers of many of today’s top comedians, including Schumer, Tiffany Haddish, Fortune Feimster, Roy Wood Jr, Lil Rel Howery, Michelle Buteau, and Iliza Schlesinger, among countless others. Recently, Hurwitz reunited with Haddish, Feimster, and Buteau to produce their respective Netflix comedy specials.

Recognizing the power of comedy to inform and shift the culture, Hurwitz continues to launch and produce underrepresented talent by bringing them to television in the groundbreaking series she creates or develops like Epix’ Unprotected Sets and They Ready for Netflix. In her latest project, Stand Out, Hurwitz comes full circle by shining a spotlight on the comedy community that first gave her a voice. The project chronicles the rich history of LGBTQ stand up, and will feature an unprecedented comedy concert in Los Angeles. For the first time ever, the top LGBTQ comedians from around the world will converge on the same historic stage. Hurwitz will write, direct, and produce the documentary project, which is slated for a 2020 release.

In 2013 Hurwitz partnered with trailblazing comedian Wanda Sykes – who has paved the way on stage for a generation of diverse voices – to form Push It Productions. Unsurprisingly, the full-service production company is focused on creating high quality comedy content with an eye toward diversity in front of and behind the camera.

The company has landed original projects at broadcast, cable, and streaming outlets, including the award-winning Herlarious, the critically acclaimed series Talk Show The Game Show, and the Emmy nominated Wanda Sykes: Not Normal. Push It’s newest series, The Upshaws, is a half-hour comedy starring Mike Epps and Sykes. It is scheduled to debut on Netflix in 2020. Push It is also developing W.H.I.P.s, a half-hour comedy for BET, which features an African American, 40-plus, female cast.  Hurwitz and Sykes executive produce and serve as writers on the series.

After more than 20 years in the industry, Hurwitz continues to create content aimed at effecting change and uniting audiences…one joke at a time.
