The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel: Season 3 (2019)

SEASON:

Season 3
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

Critics Consensus

As visually spectacular as ever, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel's witty banter flies with comedic fury -- but shallow social commentary and wandering storylines highlight the show's increasingly superficial tendencies.

Critic Reviews for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 3

All Critics (43) | Top Critics (19)

It can be a fun diversion, sweet in its willful irrelevancy and alluring in its jovial rhythms.

In its third season, Amazon Prime's "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" couldn't exhibit more moxie if it tried. Yet it tries!

Dec 13, 2019 | Full Review…

Season 3 could rebound in its back half. The focus could shift, real problems could arise, and Brown could get that juicy arc he deserves. Even without all that, the first five episodes are sure to please die-hard fans.

Yes, the basics absolutely are in place, and the pleasures, too.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel has reached a point where its aesthetic, which definitely revels in the trappings that come with upper-class life, may be more blatantly at odds with the direction in which Midge needs to go in order to grow as a character.

Dec 13, 2019 | Full Review…

It's frustrating, because the show keeps hinting that it's edging toward more substantial fare, only to back out at the last minute.

Dec 8, 2019 | Full Review…

It starts off with a bang, impresses and seduces you with its sheer likability, but then the flaws start to reveal themselves. Small, niggly things. But that doesn't mean you can't forgive them to have a bloody great time with it.

Go on, just watch it.

Dec 11, 2019 | Full Review…

The season is enjoyable, and I think great things are being done with Midge's character in particular.

A family-friendly, charmingly retro comedy series...The good news is...The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is still delightful.

Season three offers plenty of laughs, albeit with a sense of diminishing returns.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 3 Review: The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 3 follows Midge Maisel as her comedy career quicks off while opening for the singer Shy Baldwin on his tour. Amy Sherman-Palladino create this award winning series back in 2017 and wowed audiences. Ever since I watched that first episode after sweeping at the Golden Globes in 2018, I have been sucked into this beautiful show. I just love the plot and setting so much. So I watched season 3 within the first three days of its release (I've been bombarded with the stresses of school so this is very late and will be shorter) because of that very reason. I'm very shocked though at the lack of raving reviews like its past seasons. Critics deemed it good with an 81% but the other seasons received scores in that 90s. What surprised me the most is the audience score. Audiences gave the past seasons scores in the high 90s. However, season three was given a 63%. Yes, this was my least favorite season out of all of them but I still find this show to be a marvel. The story, though a little weaker, managed to keep my attention every episode. Rachel Brosnahan gives yet again a perfect performance. I think the comedy writing has gotten even better in this season because it was really funny. Her sets that she does were always the highlight of the episodes. Alex Borstein is also a perfect Suzie. I really liked her a lot in this season. To me there was more depth. Really everybody does a fantastic job with acting. The casting could never be any better. So back to the story, it focuses mostly around Midge opening for this singer, Shy Baldwin. I really liked the music aspect to it because the singer was just superb. There's a lot of drama with Shy that happens and some of it was pretty predictable. I felt a little more distant from Shy than the other characters. The main issue I had with this season was the predictability and we've seen some of this before. But, like I said earlier, I still think this is just a wonderful show and one of the best out right now. It's the lesser of the three seasons, but don't really take the lower scores into consideration. Definitely check this series out. It's on Amazon Prime. I don't know a single person who doesn't like this show. There's no doubt that it will be considered one of the best shows of all time. My Grade: A-

Long on nostalgia, short on story. And no matter how much nostalgia you pack in it doesn't improve the lackluster story. Joel is over-acting more than ever, it's painful to watch. I hope he has a fall back career, because this isn't working. His parents also, just too much of a Jewish parody, too ridiculous to be funny. And really, do we need to inject politics and LBGT into EVERYTHING??? I almost turned it off at that point, with the preachy baloney that was not at all entertaining. Mrs Maisel herself continues to be the star and is a pleasure to watch. I wish her parents would have a spin off show, they are so weird they are unpredictably funny. This is probably the season least worth watching. Season 2 continues to be the highlight of the production for me.

I don't think season 3 is as good as the two previous ones but I did enjoy the season. Characters were really good.

Ehhh. Falls into cliche more than previou seasons. No spoilers here. Overall I love the series and like season 3 however there are moments I strongly dislike. Hello people...really anyone over 7 should not find jokes of certain male anatomy funny. One of these jokes per season should suffice really. Way too many of these "filler jokes" instead of clever well written humor. And then there's the f -word jokes which I find equally not funny and are used to fill voids. MadMen while not comedy, was admirable in truly setting the era in voice and setting. Mrs Maisel sets tone in set, but not so well in voice. Best scenes are when chemistry is present with Joel and when Susie gets a chance to step outside her spoofy persona and show her brilliance. Mrs Maisel's voice is often lost in cliche while the writers are attempting to modernize or show relation with plights of today. More admirable would it be to focus on the character's voice of that era and their complexities. Audiences can bring their own conclusion of politics and social justice. We really are brighter than the writers think! Opportunities to develop beyond the obvious are not taken in season 3 as they were in 1 and 2. One scene of Midge reminiscing of her old life I found paticulairly flat and unconvincing. There are however brighter moments, but shallow writing and verbal slapstick dims those moments to a degree.

A little bit too frenetic, and a lot too much virtue signaling.

I love, love, live this series. The dialogues are quick, smart and hilarious! The acting superb! And... can we talk about the costumes!! Edith Head would be proud!

Season 3 is way too choppy and it's hard to keep track of what's going on. There isn't a consistent plot . Way too many characters that didn't need to be included. Season 1 and Season 2 was so much better.

This season so far is slow with little humor. Whatever Crisis Abe is going through stinks and is boring. The USA show was good but actually stopped watching half was through the second show. My husband and I were following asleep to a show we absolutely loved last season. However this season needs help!!! Did the writers change or what?!

The best season of the show hands down
