As I write this, it's still raining. Earlier it was pouring, lightning was flashing across the muddy grey sky, and thunder was breaking like it had something to prove.
April showers bring May flowers, as the saying goes. And there's not much April left to unravel before we find ourselves unfurling May.
A new month means a new slate of Netflix movies, TV shows and Netflix Originals. So let's take a look at next month's highlights, both new and old, and what you should try to stream as summer barrels forth. Then we'll get on to the Big List.
What To Stream On Netflix In May
May isn't the biggest month for new Netflix Originals, but there are a few worth looking forward to.
Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile lands on March 3rd. The Ted Bundy biopic chronicles the serial killer's story from the perspective of his girlfriend, Elizabeth Kloepfer. Creepy. Starring Lily Collins, Zac Efron and Angela Sarafyan.
Tuca & Bertie is another animated comedy from Bojack Horseman creator Lisa Hanawalt. Fans of that show should probably be excited for this one as well. And fans of The Walking Dead, Voltron and Burning will be happy to know that Steven Yeun is one of the cast.
Other Netflix Originals landing in May include Amy Poehler's directorial debut, Wine Country (May 10th); tsupernatural teen drama, The Society (May 10th); and Season 4 of Lucifer (May 8th) which is now a Netflix show.
Non-Netflix arrivals include a nice mix of action, comedy and family content. May 1st is the big day for movies and we'll see Mike Myers' classic James Bond parodies Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery and Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me drop that day.
Terry Gilliam's excellent Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas (starring Johnny Depp and Benicio del Toro) also lands on May 1st. If you haven't seen it, it's one of the trippiest movies ever made. Definitely worth checking out.
Chris Evans-led Snowpiercer also returns to Netflix May 1st. You should definitely give that one a try (especially if you're an Evans fan). It's the story of a super train that's the last bastion of humanity on a frozen earth and the class struggle that ensues on board. It's thrilling, bizarre and just . . . unlike anything else I've seen.
All three Matrix movies also come to Netflix on the 1st, so you can binge them all at once or just watch the first one and pretend like the second two don't exist (if, like me, you found the first one leagues better than the sequels). If you haven't seen The Matrix, it stars Keanu Reeves of John Wick fame and is still a masterpiece even 20 years later.
Other good movies landing next month include Scarface, Zombieland, and the woefully underrated John Carter (of Mars, naturally). For kids, Casper and the weirdest Muppet movie ever made: The Dark Crystal.
There's lots more on the big list, so scroll through the movies, TV shows and Netflix Originals below and let me know what you're excited to watch this month on Twitter or Facebook. I'm always looking for something new to watch!
