Editorial & Research

Gabrielle Weiss
Gabrielle Weiss, PUBLISHER & EDITOR

Gabrielle Weiss is responsible for the overall vision, operations and development of the magazine. Weiss was tapped to serve as Publisher and Editor where she is responsible for the magazine’s day-to-day editorial operations and design. Prior to that role, she oversaw the creation of content and communication strategies for TSE’s parent company, United Service Companies. She successfully led efforts to brand United’s security group, which included message development; creating sales and marketing materials; designing webinars; and produced and directed a promotional film. She also led the relaunch of the company’s social media platform.

Before coming to United, Weiss worked for prominent public affairs agencies and as a freelance journalist in Chicago, where she was nominated for the prestigious Lisagor Award for her coverage of homeless women on Chicago’s North Side. Weiss holds a bachelor’s degree in public relations from Roosevelt University in Chicago where she also studied journalism.

Carol Andrews, Editor-at-Large

Carol Andrews works on special projects and directories as well as feature articles for the magazine. Carol joined TSE in 2008, continuing in a successful career in the industry that began in 1986 when she was hired by Gudea as an assistant editor at Tradeshow Week. She rose through the ranks to editor-in-chief, and in 2003, left to join Ascend Media as editor of Clinical Lab Products. During her career, Carol has earned multiple writing awards from APEX and the American Society of Business Publication Editors (ASBPE). She has been active in IAEE as well as the Trade Show Exhibitors Association and the National Coalition of Black Meeting Planners. She is a graduate of Antioch College in Ohio and earned a Masters degree in Mass Communications from California State University, Northridge.

Danica Tormohlen, Editor-at-Large

Danica Tormohlen, who served as editor-in-chief and publisher of EXPO magazine, has covered the trade show industry since 1994. She has won numerous awards for outstanding editorial and design, including the Folio: Eddie Award for Editorial Excellence in the travel and hospitality category. Tormohlen is active in the trade show and publishing industries, serving on various committees for the International Association for Exhibitions and Events (IAEE). She has also spoken at a variety of industry events including IAEE, SISO, American Business Media, TSE's Gold 100, Large Show Roundtable and CSPI. On the publishing side, Tormohlen is a founding board member of the Kansas City Chapter of the American Society of Business Publication Editors (ASBPE), and she currently serves on the national and chapter boards for ASBPE.

Carri Jensen, Manager of Directories

Carri Jensen joined Trade Show Executive in 2011 as manager of directories. In this capacity, Carri is responsible for compiling all of TSE’s annual directories including the World’s Top Convention Centers directory, the Gold 100 directory and Fastest 50 directory. She also oversees the production of TSE’s monthly ZOOM trade show calendar and a number of statistical reports. She serves on the planning committee for the TSE Gold 100 Awards & Summit and the TSE Fastest 50 Awards & Summit. Carri’s background includes 14 years with Reed Business Information. As editor of directory publications, she led a team which compiled the Tradeshow Week 200, the Tradeshow Week Data Book and the TSW Major Exhibit Hall Directory. Carri has a B.S. in Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management from Oregon State University.

Hil Anderson, Senior Editor

Hil Anderson has over 20 years experience as a news writer and editor. He joined United Press International (UPI) in San Diego as its news reporter/bureau manager; moved up to international desk supervisor in Washington, DC; and then was promoted to West Coast news editor in Los Angeles as well as chief energy correspondent. Prior to UPI, Anderson was editor of Platt’s Oilgram News, published by Standard & Poor’s, a division of the McGraw-Hill Companies, where he wrote and edited articles on the oil industry for a daily newsletter and subscription wire service. He has a B.A. in History from Michigan State University. Anderson joined Trade Show Executive in 2006, and as senior editor, reports on breaking news, trends analysis and statistical research. As part of the Trade Show Executive team, Anderson has won six APEX awards.

Darlene Gudea is a seasoned professional with over 25 years of experience as a writer, researcher, editor and publisher in the trade show industry. She began her career in the trade show business in 1978 as managing editor of Tradeshow Week, published by Reed Business Information in Los Angeles. She rose through the ranks and was named VP/publisher & editor-in-chief in December 1986. In March 2000, she joined Advanstar Communications in Santa Ana, CA as group publisher of the Call Center/CRM Group, responsible for Customer Interface magazine, the Customer Interface Buyer’s Guide, two show dailies, five exhibitor directories and five conference guides. In September 2001, she was named director of the Magazine Division of Hispanic Business in Santa Barbara, CA, overseeing its editorial, research, circulation, sales and production departments.

 

Gudea joined Trade Show Executive magazine in September 2002, expanding the bi-monthly publication to 12 issues per year; launched five directories including the World's Top Convention Centers and the popular Who's Who series; launched a website and E-clips Breaking News; added an event division to launch the Gold 100 Awards & Summit; and formed a strategic partnership with Simmons Market Research Bureau and Mark Rothman & Associates to conduct custom research projects for convention bureaus, convention centers and private equity firms.

Gudea is active in many trade show industry associations, and has served on the board of directors of the International Association of Exhibition & Events (IAEE), IAEE Education Foundation, the Center for Exhibition Industry Research (CEIR) Foundation, the Trade Show Exhibitors Association (TSEA) and the Exhibit Designer & Producers Association Foundation (ED&PA). She was awarded the Distinguished Service Award from the International Association of Exhibitions & Events (IAEE) as well as from the Trade Show Exhibitors Association (TSEA). Gudea and the publications she directed have won over 56 awards from the American Society of Business Publication Editors, the Western Publications Association, TABPI and APEX /Communications Concepts for excellence in the areas of design, feature-writing, “How-To” articles, newswriting, surveys and for the “Most Improved Publication." Marcia Williams
Marcia Williams, Vice President Events

Marcia Williams is vice president of events for Trade Show Executive, a position that puts her at the high-profile helm of Trade Show Executive’s Gold 100 Awards & Summit and Trade Show Executive’s Fastest 50 Awards & Summit. Marcia is an events management veteran with vast experience in the design, production and management of conferences and special events. An award-winning events planner, she brings an entrepreneurial and strategic approach to event design and logistics and has done so for events ranging from 20 to 3,000 attendees. Prior to joining Trade Show Executive, Marcia worked for several respected organizations including IAEE, and has served as Director of Operations at the Meeting Professionals International (MPI) Foundation. An active member the meetings industry, she has also served on multiple industry committees and is currently president-elect on the MPI Texas Hill Country Chapter Board of Directors.

Diane Bjorklund
Diane Bjorklund, Senior Sales Representative – Sponsorship Sales

Diane Bjorklund is the Senior Sales Representative – Sponsorship Sales for Trade Show Executive. She joined Trade Show Executive in 2007 and served as the VP of Events through 2018 where she expertly grew and developed the organization’s high-caliber events portfolio where she also oversaw sponsorship sales and fulfillment before transitioning to her current role of solely concentrating on event sponsorship sales. Prior to joining Trade Show Executive, she worked four years as the Conference Director and Member Services Manager for SISO, the Society of Independent Show Organizers. Prior to working at SISO, she was a human resources supervisor at Laventhol & Horwath.

Linda Braue
Linda Braue, Vice President

Linda Braue has over 18 years of sales experience in the trade show and technology fields. Prior to joining Trade Show Executive magazine, she had a very successful sales career in the technology field where she sold computers, optical character recognition systems and file management systems. She received her B.A. in Liberal Arts/Political Science from San Diego State University and her M.B.A. from the American Graduate School of International Management. At Trade Show Executive, Braue has made a strong contribution to the growth of the magazine by meeting or exceeding her sales quota every quarter and has been promoted three times since joining the company in 2004. She has been instrumental in bringing in many new advertisers and accounts that advertise exclusively in Trade Show Executive.
