In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Noelle Stevenson talked about taking on the She-Ra and the Princesses of Power series as well as her motives for signing on. As previously noted, Stevenson did not watch the original She-Ra series when she was growing up, but she has fallen in love with the character now. She describes the new show as completely unique. Stevenson explains.

"I was always looking for the female characters in sci-fi and fantasy who were more than just the girlfriend. I love the female characters in She-Ra. There isn't another show quite like it."

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power has been in development for a while, but nowhere as long as her male counterpart's reboot. The Masters of the Universe movie has been in development hell for over a decade, but it's finally on track now that the Nee Brothers have stepped up to take on the project. The original She-Ra series debuted after He-Man, but it was seen a trailblazing series for girls. She-Ra was just as powerful as He-Man and even came off as smarter. Noelle Stevenson had this to say about the show.

"She-Ra was ahead of its time. I'm so excited to bring these stories of female power and love and friendship back now when it seems like we need them more than ever."

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power will premiere later this year and boasts a pretty big voice cast. Aimee Carrero (Elena of Avalor) stars as Adora/She-Ra, Karen Fukuhara (Suicide Squad) as Glimmer, AJ Michalka (The Goldbergs) as Catra, Marcus Scribner (black-ish) as Bow, Reshma Shetty as Angella, Lorraine Toussaint (Orange is the New Black) as Shadow Weaver, Keston John as Hordak, Lauren Ash as Scorpia; Christine Woods as Entrapta, Genesis Rodriguez as Perfuma, Jordan Fisher as Seahawk, Vella Lovell as Mermista, Merit Leighton as Frosta, Sandra Oh (Grey's Anatomy) as Castaspella, and Krystal Joy Brown as Netossa. "She-Ra and the Princesses of Power is the story of an orphan named Adora, who leaves behind her former life in the evil Horde when she discovers a magic sword that transforms her into the mythical warrior princess She-Ra. Along the way, she finds a new family in the Rebellion as she unites a group of magical princesses in the ultimate fight against evil."

There is no current release date set for She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, but it will premiere on Netflix before the end of the year. The new show will take a character from the 1980s and reimagine her for a whole new generation of young women who are ready to watch females kick some ass.
