Aziz Ansari took home the Golden Globe for best performance by an actor in a TV series, comedy or musical on Sunday night.

The Master of None actor and creator beat out Anthony Anderson (Black-ish), Kevin Bacon (I Love Dick), William H. Macy (Shameless) and Eric McCormack (Will & Grace). 

Upon accepting his award, Ansari joked, "I genuinely didn’t think I was going to win because all the websites said I was going to lose." It was his first win for his role on the show at the Globes. He was previously nominated in the category at the 2016 ceremony, something that he referenced in his speech. Triggering the censor, Ansari said, "I'm glad we won this one because it would've really sucked to lose two of these in a row; it would've been a really sh—ty moment for me, but this is nice."

"The only reason my acting is good in that show is because everyone else holds me up the whole time," he also said, in thanking his fellow castmembers. 

Master of None, which Ansari created with Alan Yang and which also stars Lena Waithe and Eric Wareheim, follows the personal and professional exploits of Dev, a 30-year-old aspiring actor.

Seth Meyers hosted the 75th annual Globes ceremony, which took place at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles.
