Netflix re-ups True and the Rainbow Kingdom

A third season of Guru Studio's Netflix original series will launch on the global streamer in 2019.

Netflix has ordered a third season of its original kids series True and the Rainbow Kingdom. The 10 x 22-minute toon is produced by Toronto, Canada-based Guru Studio in partnership with Pharrell Williams’ label, I am OTHER, as well as fine art collective FriendsWithYou and animation studio Home Plate Entertainment.

Featuring themes of mindfulness, empathy, imagination and reasoning, True and the Rainbow Kingdom follows eight-year-old True and her best feline friend as they work to solve problems by activating the powers of a wishing tree.

A second season of the show, meanwhile, is currently in production for delivery to Netflix in 2018.

The third season pickup follows Guru’s appointment of Norwood, Massachusetts-based toyco Toy State as master toy licensee for the series. That deal, which encompasses figures, role play, plush, playsets and dolls, was brokered by the IP’s exclusive licensing agency Brand Central last month. Toy State is expected to roll out the first wave of True and the Rainbow Kingdom products in fall 2018.

Another Netflix original focused on the mindfulness trend, Saban Brands’ preschool series Cirque du Soleil Junior – Luna Petunia, is also branching out into toys with its newly launched Funrise Toys line in the UK.
