Experts and parents alike have been worried about the influence 13 Reasons Why could have on impressionable youngsters.

Sadly, someone seems to have been directly inspired by the controversial teen drama.

Schools and parents have reported an uptick in teen suicide and self-harm since the Netflix series rose to popularity, though correlation does not equal causation.

Others, especially youths, have argued the show has only made people more apt to speak out about these issues, raising awareness of what has always been happening.

Well, this unfortunate event can’t be rationalized any other way: A 23-year-old man in Peru used 13 Reasons as an inspiration for his own suicide.

Franco Alonso Lazo Medrano told his mother he couldn’t deal with the pain of his “heartbreak” before throwing himself out a fourth floor window right in front of her.

Franco initially survived the fall, but died later in the hospital, People reports.

Police on the scene found two suicide notes.

The first note appeared to say goodbye to someone named Claudia, while the other left instructions for a list of people to listen to tapes to learn why they forced him to kill himself.

So far, there has been no confirmation that Franco had watched the series or that the show had directly affected his decision.

But given the tapes and instructions left behind, it seems clear Franco was directly emulating Hannah Baker’s suicide.

Netflix has been careful to add plenty of trigger warnings before the heavier episodes of the series.

Emphasis has also been placed on reaching out for help, with the streaming network providing information for hotlines along with the show.

So far, Netflix hasn’t commented on the unfortunate incident.
