Island has set a Sept. 13 release date for a double-disc version of Elton John's "Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy" to celebrate the album's 30th anniversary. The reissue will be accompanied by a series of commemorative concerts in the United States.

Disc one of "Captain Fantastic: Deluxe Edition" will include the original recording as well as an assortment of singles and B-sides from 1974 and 1975, including a John/John Lennon duet on the Beatles' "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds." The CD also contains such tracks as "Philadelphia Freedom," "House of Cards," and the Lennon-penned "One Day at a Time."

Disc two will offer the June 1975 concert debut of "Captain Fantastic," which has never been commercially available. Recorded at England's 120,000-capacity Wembley Stadium, it was the first and only complete live performance of the album, and featured guest performances from the Beach Boys, the Eagles, Joe Walsh, Stackridge and Rufus with Chaka Khan.

"Captain Fantastic" was the first album to ever debut at No. 1 on The Billboard 200, a feat John accomplished again in 1975 with "Rock of the Westies." The autobiographical project eventually reached triple platinum status, and lyrical collaborator Bernie Taupin has called it "probably the finest album we've made."

Next month, Sir Elton will reprise his Wembley performance during a series of five sold-out concert dates Boston (Sept. 16-17) and New York (Sept. 21-23), where he will again perform "Captain Fantastic" in full.
