The first look at Dreamfall Chapters: Book 3 teases some dramatic changes

Dreamfall Chapters: Book 3 is "getting close" to release, and in the meantime, Red Thread Games has shared the first look (pictured above) at the upcoming episode, titled Realms. In it, we see protagonists Kian and Zoe looking drastically different than their appearances in Book 2: Rebels. "Please note that this art is not final," a post on Kickstarter reads. "Art director Christoffer will continue to tweak the art next week — but Book Three is indeed called 'Realms'...and both Kian and Zoe have gone through some dramatic changes in the time that's passed since the end of Book Two!" The third episode is progressing well, the post adds, and the focus now has shifted to finishing final assets. Red Thread said it won't announce a release date until the game is five to seven days away...

Here's a sneak preview of the Batman: Arkham Knight prequel comic

DC Comics' official prequel comic for Batman: Arkham Knight keeps plugging right along, telling the tale of the Joker's missing body, his last will and testament, the origins of the new Batmobile and Bruce Wayne's ongoing mission to use his fame and money (as well as his abilities as Batman) to make real change in Gotham City. But despite what seems like a successful start to Commissioner James Gordon's campaign for the office of mayor, it's a safe bet that it's Batman who'll be needed to deal with Bane, newly escaped — again — from Arkham Asylum. Courtesy of DC Comics, we've got this four page preview (plus cover) for Batman: Arkham Knight #14, from the talents of writer Mike W. Barr and artist Jim Aparo. Here's the official summary: One of Batman's deadliest enemies is back and...

Chroma Squad review: faux faux Power Rangers

I’ve never been a fan of the “It’s X crossed with Y” way of describing games or movies, it’s always seemed a bit reductive. But in the case of Chroma Squad, when the formula is “Power Rangers crossed with XCOM with a dash of Game Dev Story,” it’s just a bit too bizarre of a recipe not to share. When group of five stuntmen get tired of the poor plotting and overbearing direction on their sentai series, they set out to form their own studio. If the term "sentai" is unfamiliar, just think Power Rangers: Spandex-clad heroes taking on rubber suit monsters with their super-powered weapons and their skyscraper-sized mech. With little more than a warehouse borrowed from a squad member’s uncle, they start filming episodes of their own show, transforming into a super team that’s equally...

Not a Hero review: don't stop and pop

Not a Hero doesn't just trim the fat off the cover-based shooter genre — it absolutely eviscerates it. Just as developer Roll7's previous work, OlliOlli, reduced skateboarding to its most essential components, Not a Hero takes the cover-based shooter and turns it into something lean and brutal. The game's murderous cast is always moving, sliding between cover, fanning out pot shots and delivering grisly executions. There's no downhill slope to pull you forward, but that doesn't mean Not a Hero lacks momentum. For all the slick improvisation that Not a Hero demands, it undercuts that chaos with a surprising amount of rigidity. It is a game in which you will fail dozens of times until you learn the correct way to complete your objectives. It feels less like composing a symphony of...

Divinity: Original Sin's creator hints at two secret projects and the future of RPGs

Larian Studios announced today that it is doing a new Enhanced Edition of its popular Divinity: Original Sin. But that's not the only project the studio has been working on since its popular role-playing game released last summer. In a conversation with Polygon, Larian founder and creative director Swen Vincke revealed that Original Sin Enhanced Edition is only one of three projects that the developer is currently creating. "We also have two other secret projects going on," he said. "We've been pretty open about the fact that those are big RPGs. They'll be turn-based RPGs." Though Larian is sticking with the turn-based RPG format, Vincke says the success of Divinity: Original Sin is allowing the developer to take risks it otherwise couldn't have. "We're doing new things," he said. "O...

Divinity: Original Sin was a surprise success when it released last year, combining old-school PC role-playing game roots with a brilliant co-op-centric turn-based system. Soon console owners will be able to try it for themselves.Developer Larian Studios has announced Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition, a new version of the RPG that will be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Windows PC, Mac, Linux and SteamOS. The computer versions of Enhanced Edition will be a separate product, which means saved games from the original release won't transfer. The Xbox One version of the game is "appearing around then too." The game's 1.0 version on Steam adds controller support, achievements and the same UI navigation the Xbox One version will have. Windward sets sail with Steam launch deal

Top-down seafaring adventure Windward has emerged from Early Access and is on sale now, via Steam, for $12.74, a 15 percent reduction on its full price. Set in the age of sail, players take control of ships in order to explore, best pirates and open up trade routes. Interviewed earlier this year by Polygon, Windward's creator Michael Lyashenko said the game is inspired by the likes of Sid Meier's Pirates, Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag and Age of Booty. "I like the atmosphere of just sailing around," he said. "It's very peaceful and then you see a pirate and it becomes very hectic and you are trying to stay alive, positioning your ship to line up your guns." A new trailer for Windward (above) has also been released.
