The Rainbow List 2014: Why we changed the name from the Pink List
We listened to your comments and aim to be even more inclusive and less old-fashioned
Sunday 05 October 2014
Farewell, The Pink List. Long live The Rainbow List 2014 and onwards.
Changing the name of our beloved List was a tricky decision, but the right one after all this time. 15 years from its inception, the List has grown up. It is brighter, bolder and more confident than when it started in 2000 as a list of a mere 50 people in public life who were “out”. Now it receives thousands of nominations for people from more walks of life than ever.
At The Independent on Sunday we have listened carefully to what readers have told us about the Pink List, and many of you said that you were put off by the pink. A rainbow is more inclusive, less old-fashioned and far less like the “girls” aisle in a toyshop, we hope. Our hashtag has also changed, so do tweet us at @IndyonSunday or mention #RainbowList2014 to let us know what you think, and nominate your most influential LGBT people at independent.co.uk/rainbowlist. The full list will be published on 9 November.
* You can nominate as many times as you like at www.independent.co.uk/rainbowlist, by emailing [email protected], or by post at Pink List, The Independent on Sunday, 2 Derry Street, London W8 5HF
Let us know what you think on Twitter using the hashtag #RainbowList2014, or write to [email protected].
