Meredith finds money in the school parking lot and uses it to pay for a ski trip, but she soon faces a moral quandary upon discovering the cash was lost by Ginny and meant for a student trip. Elsewhere, divorced Principal Carl hits the local bars. Colin Hanks guest stars.

Meredith and Principal Carl's friendship is tested when Meredith refuses to apologize for offending the parents of the school's best student. Meanwhile, Joel scratches Ginny's car.

We're enjoying the Bad Teacher TV comedy much more than the movie.
The casting for Bad Teacher is brilliant. Graynor is enormously appealing as the lead, balancing an insouciant affect with a slinky, thrown-off, ironic villainy.
The show does take a few episodes to settle. (I have seen three.) But all in all, it's a pleasant, sunny and well-played ephemeral farce.
Bad Teacher puts on a crass front but is saved by a kindly heart.
Hilary Winston's TV adaptation of Bad Teacher has the potential to exceed the movie version with the help of its vivacious lead, Ari Graynor, and a great ensemble cast.
Bad Teacher relies on a one-joke premise that's funny enough in the premiere but seems like it will wear poorly over time.
A show that will be lucky to make it to prom season.
It isn't nearly funny enough... to make me want to spend another period - much less the rest of the school year - watching Graynor vamp her way through American history.
The writing loosens up later on, and has some charm.
Graynor, fronting her first TV series, seems perfectly equipped to do so. The eye candy attributes are obvious, but she also knows how to land a punchline and parry with the veteran pros surrounding her.
Unlike the film's Cameron Diaz, whose charismatic veneer could mask the avarice, Graynor is so obviously vulgar a man-eater that there's no charm to her bawdy smarm.
The best thing about CBS' Bad Teacher sitcom remake is that it makes me really want to see its star, Ari Graynor, in something better.
There's warmth and some humor here. It's also been tweaked so that, unlike the movie, it isn't only for teens. But Bad Teacher has a tough test ahead.
What this Bad Teacher really needed to do was outsmart the source material -- make this version more clever, or sharper, or funnier, or (above all) make it for adults. After all, no teens will ever fall for this flavorless, sanitized and timid retread.
Graynor's dilettante is consistently good company, even if the show's prospects of striking the Nielsen mother lode look iffy.
If the producers had the courage to make Meredith truly bad, then maybe their show would have been good (or at least better).
Bad Teacher delivers more smiles than it does laughs. But the comedy is on the right track.
The black comedy devolves into shades of gray, and not the good kind.
CBS' adaptation of Bad Teacher throws so many talented people at the question of how to turn the Cameron Diaz movie into a TV show that it will inevitably come to a point where it's at least relatively good, if not excellent.
I'm going to recommend at least DVR-ing it. If you can make it through the pilot, it definitely gets better.
The series otherwise dulls the satirical bite of its predecessor with stock characters and a standard episodic arc.
It's not as "bad" as the movie and that's pretty good, but if it was more bad, it could be better. Get it? Good.
It's decent material to mine for laughs in a two-hour movie, but it wears thin on a weekly basis despite solid performances.
If you've seen the film, you've seen the shtick. And CBS, surprisingly, doesn't find many new notes to play in the TV version, leaving open the question of why they bothered cloning such a forgettable film at all.
