It's (Not) The End Of The World...And Radio Had Fun With It

While the stroke of midnight and this morning's sunrise disproved the Mayans' doomsday prediction for yesterday (Dec. 21), radio nevertheless had fun with the prophecy, as the dire forecast's signature song, R.E.M.'s "It's the End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)," registered a hefty surge in airplay yesterday and in recent days.

Iron Butterfly Bassist Lee Dorman Dies at 70

Authorities say Lee Dorman, the bassist of psychedelic rock band Iron Butterfly, has died at age 70. Orange County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Gail Krause says Dorman was found dead in a vehicle Friday morning. A coroner's investigation is under way, but foul play is not suspected.

Taylor Swift Going for Six Weeks at No. 1 With 'Red' on Next Week's Billboard 200

Industry sources are forecasting that Taylor Swift's latest album, "Red," is on track to possibly spend a sixth non-consecutive week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart next week. The album could move between 260,000 and 290,000 by the end of the tracking week on Dec. 23.

BMG Acquires Mute Records Catalog

In its second deal of the day, BMG Rights Management has acquired the Mute back catalog owned by EMI, which includes records released by artists like Depeche Mode, Erasure, Moby, Goldfrapp and Nick Cave. While BMG acquired the Mute catalog assets, the Mute label itself is unaffected by the deal and remains a separate stand-alone entity.

What Really Happened to Sony and Universal's 2 Billion Missing YouTube Views

Ricardo Arjona to Offer 99-Cent Tickets as Hurricane Sandy 'Christmas Gift' for Long Island Show

Latin singer Ricardo Arjona will offer fans tickets for 99 cents to his Feb. 10 show at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Long Island as a “Christmas gift” to victims of Hurricane Sandy. The show is part of Arjona’s 11-city “Arjona En Vivo U.S.A. Tour: Metamorfosis,”  which kicks off Jan. 25 and Jan. 26 in Puerto Rico.

Chart Moves: 'Nashville' Nets Year's Best Sales Week for TV Soundtrack on Billboard 200

Outside the top 10, there was a lot of action on the Billboard 200 this week. The soundtrack to the ABC TV series "Nashville" earns the biggest sales week of the year for a TV soundtrack, as it starts with 56,000 sold, debuting at No. 14 on the Billboard 200. The third volume in the "Glee's" "Christmas" album series starts at No. 20 on the Billboard 200 with 45,000 sold. And the soundtrack to "The Hobbit" starts at No. 30 on the Billboard 200 with 36,000 sold.
