David Fincher (Fight Club, Curious Case of Benjamin Button) has been planning to make a new "Heavy Metal" movie for the last few years and has attached James Cameron (Avatar), Zack Snyder (300) and Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean) to direct segments of the film.
MTV News has now caught up with Fincher to get an update. "We're trying to get people to embrace R-rated, anthology, 3-D. You would think [there would be no problems] with all of the examples we can show of how it works," the helmer said sarcastically.
But Fincher is confidant that the movie will eventually get financing and be made. He said: "It's an ongoing process. It's going to be one of those things that when we finally get to do it, that's when everybody will say, 'Of course! We always loved this.'"
"Heavy Metal" is inspired by the '70s science fiction fantasy magazine, which previously was the basis for a 1981 film and a 2000 sequel. This version will consist of eight or nine individual animated segments, each by a different director, all of them infused with the spirit of the erotic and violent storylines that defined the magazine.

1981 Heavy Metal was one of the best sci-fi animations of its time. Four part anthology linked by a mysterious glowing green orb that represents the pure evil of the universe. Various beings are drawn to the globe wanting to possess its power for corruption and to unleash anarchy. There are well developed characters, incredible graphic violence, torture and sex esp. with Taarna the Amazonian being the climax story (yes, cum countless times) with her hotter than hell warrior outfit which includes her infamous butt cheeks. Catch this to see good old school animation and storytelling.
Fincher is a great director but it will be a challenge to ringmaster 8 or 9 other directors for their entries (scheduling alone will kill this project). This seems like too many short stories to cram in. I say do 4 shorts that way each selected director can properly demonstrate their animation skills within 30 minutes and not have plot, character development suffer from time restraints.
Good luck getting Cameron's contribution - he's too busy over the next few years planning Avafucks 2 and 3.

constraints (I must have been visualizing that bondage scene).
This is a genius idea that will eventually get made. It just needs time for the idea to set in amongst certain directors.

anthology films blow; Decalogue was actually a TV miniseries--not a film--so it doesn't count

Heavy Metal was the shit, if all those directors did this that wouold be amazing. I would also be interested in Alfonso Cuaron doing a segment, perhaps throw in Guillermo Del Toro in there as well.
He can't get funding to remake Heavy Metal but Brett Ratner hasn't been assassinated by a guy dress like John Wilkes Boothe ?
What the fuck ?

This could be done amazingly on a low budget like 70-90mil and thats being generous lol! i mean the first one was done on a 30mil budget most of which was spent on booze and cocaine!
