Main Page error reports

To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.

  • Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
  • Offer a correction if possible.
  • References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
  • Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 20:36 on 19 June 2024) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
  • Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
  • Do not use {{edit fully-protected}} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
  • No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
  • Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
  • Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed or determined not to be an error, or the item has been rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

  • Amen break: the waveform shown is a screenshot of a copyrighted work, therefore it's a derivative. We may have rationale to use it on the article page (although I don't know what added value the waveform gives) but that wouldn't be compatible with the 'no fair-use [media] on the main page' stance (can't find that in writing, but know it's a thing from WP:DYK). I need to raise this elsewhere (other than at Talk:Amen_break#Waveform) but noting it here and WP:BOLDly removing the image is more of a priority. MIDI (talk) 14:22, 19 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
I started a discussion at talk. A possible image slot hook swap with the sit-down strike hook is what I have suggested. The image in that nomination is not ideal, but it is licensed free. Lightburst (talk) 14:48, 19 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
@LunaEclipse, Soulbust, and SL93: Pinging the editors from the nomination . Bruxton (talk) 14:52, 19 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
I'm working on this, I should have a replacement image in a few minutes. RoySmith (talk) 14:54, 19 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
The image is tagged as being a free image, and it was approved so I promoted it. SL93 (talk) 14:55, 19 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
@SL93: yeah, there's no blame on you here, you took it on good faith and it is a somewhat obscure kind of copyright issue where the wave form which represents the recorded work isn't valid... But on a more general point, the tags on Commons aren't always accurate, so as reviewers, promoters and admin approvers we do also need to follow up the status based on where the image comes from etc. and check for any mislabelling on the Commons file. Cheers  — Amakuru (talk) 16:51, 19 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
@SL93: Right... tricky. Especially an image that is a derivative. MIDI thanks for looking out. Lightburst (talk) 17:43, 19 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
I've uploaded the other image from the aritcle. Its not a great image for the MP, and it messes up the layout a bit, but it's better than nothing. If somebody can find something better, go for it. RoySmith (talk) 15:03, 19 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
  • Gravity Blanket: "Pizza Hut's most expensive pizza" is in quotes in the article, shouldn't it also be in quotes in the hook? TSventon (talk) 14:43, 19 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Given that the source of the quote is a webpage directly promoting the blanket for commission, [1] it should never have been included in the article in the first place. AndyTheGrump (talk) 15:09, 19 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Agree, that’s unacceptable sourcing. Playful ad copy cannot be repeated as fact in DYK. Zanahary 16:12, 19 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
I have   Replaced the hook with a variant of ALT4 from the nom page:
  • I understand why the hook was changed. I promoted the hook while knowing that Today is typically considered to be a reliable, and often used, source. SL93 (talk) 17:53, 19 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
