Stream It Or Skip It: ‘Miller’s Girl’ on Netflix, an Erotic Thriller Led by Jenna Ortega That’s Stirring Up Controversy
Jenna Ortega and Martin Freeman‘s new erotic thriller Miller’s Girl has been all the buzz since it hit theaters in late January. Netflix promised subscribers that the film would come to its library on Thursday (April 25) — however, it took a bit longer than expected to reach the streaming platform.
Netflix first made the announcement on April 3, writing on X (formerly known as Twitter), “Miller’s Girl starring Jenna Ortega and Martin Freeman is coming to Netflix April 25.”
But just as fans were ready to stream Ortega’s scandalous new release, Miller’s Girl was nowhere to be found.
“Don’t see it listed. Is this debuting on a different day now?” one X user asked the streamer, while another wrote, “So what happened Netflix?? I just talked to your customer service and they said this isn’t being released [with] y’all.”
The good news is that Miller’s Girl finally landed on Netflix on Friday (April 26). Better late than never!
The controversial film stars Ortega as an 18-year-old student who gets involved in an inappropriate relationship with her teacher, played by Freeman, after she writes a sex story for a writing assignment in his class.
After its theatrical release, moviegoers slammed the actors’ 31-year age gap as “gross” and “uncomfortable” on social media, with one declaring that they were ” finally done watching these age-gap movies.”
Miller’s Girl also sparked change in the Screen Actors Guild guidelines when the film’s intimacy coordinator went viral for discussing her work with Ortega and Freeman. Now, intimacy coordinators must consult the actors for permission before publicly discussing any details of intimate scenes.
“Members have to feel safe, comfortable and confident in engaging with intimacy coordinators,” a Guild source said in a statement to Deadline.
Miller’s Girl is also currently available to rent or purchase on digital platforms like Amazon Prime Video and Vudu.
