‘Whatcha Packin’ for ‘Drag Race 16’ episode 14: Q and Michelle Visage bond over ‘perfectionism’ and theater

Each week on “Whatcha Packin’,” Michelle Visage interviews the recently eliminated queen and shows us some of the runway looks they didn’t get the chance to use on the show. Following her episode 14 elimination, Q dives into the ways that the theater world informs her success and creativity as a drag queen. Watch the full episode above via the official RuPaul’s Drag Race channel on YouTube.

In her interview with Michelle, Q describes her preparation for the show as a gauntlet of creating outfits even before she knew the themes of the season. She tells Michelle that she’s “always been creative” and then working in costume design as a theater major in college prepared her for the work she accomplished with her drag mother where her creativity really helped her “reach [her] full potential.” She also opens up to Michelle about her experience as an HIV+ person and what it meant to her to be able to share that story on the show.

Michelle took some time to express her impression of Q’s runway looks and how miraculous it is that she created some of them in such a short amount of time in the design challenges. In the episode she brought the Keith Haring, Judy Garland and Joan of Arc inspired outfits that we saw on the show. Q’s mom was her design assistant on the Judy Garland dress and it’s made Q proud how her mom has come around to acceptance of queer kids and now works as an advocate in schools for young people.
