Netflix has ordered a 20-episode run of “Ingobernable,” a Spanish-language political drama starring Mexican actress Kate del Castillo.
In “Ingoberable” (“ungovernable”), del Castillo (“The Book of Life,” ABC’s “Killer Women”) will play Irene Urzua, the wife of Mexico’s president. A woman with a strong personality, conviction and clear ideas, Urzua is capable of “creating a president, leaving a president and killing a president,” the streamer said in announcing the series.
“Netflix is committed to the creation of high-quality, Spanish-language original series for Mexico, U.S., Latin America and the world,” Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos said. “We are thrilled to be working with one of Latin America’s biggest and most talented stars, Kate de Castillo, on ‘Ingobernable,’ our next original series produced in Mexico.”
Del Castillo commented: “I absolutely love the role. It’s challenging, it’s risky, it’s compelling. The storyline and the cast are excellent. The kind of content Netflix is synonymous with. I am so happy to be part of the team.” The thesp is repped by CAA.

The series will be produced by Mexico’s Argos Comunicación and directed by José Luis García Agraz and Pedro Pablo Ibarra. “Ingobernable” will start shooting in Mexico early next year and will be available exclusively on Netflix later in 2016.
Netflix’s first original Spanish-language dramedy is Gaz Alazraki’s “Club de Cuervos” (“Nosostros los Nobles”), which will debut worldwide on Aug. 7. The series, shot in Mexico, centers on a family feud among heirs of a soccer club after the owner’s death.
