The Rolling Stones’ Billboard Boxscore Touring Gross Surpasses $2.5 Billion

It's the first post-COVID trek to cross the $100 million mark, following Harry Styles' $95 million finish.

The Rolling Stones wrapped the fourth edition of the No Filter Tour, earning $130.9 million from 577,000 tickets sold across 14 U.S. shows according to figures reported to Billboard Boxscore. That makes it the first post-COVID trek to cross the $100 million mark, following Harry Styles’ $95 million finish.

The 2021 No Filter Tour was promoted by Concerts West/AEG Presents and averaged $9.4 million and 41,200 tickets per show. All four legs combined have earned $546.5 million and sold 2.9 million tickets over 58 shows. These recent figures push The Rolling Stones’ career Boxscore gross over the $2.5 billion mark with 27.8 million tickets sold over more than 30 years.

(The Rolling Stones’ first tour reported to Billboard Boxscore was the Steel Wheels/Urban Jungle Tour from 1989-90. That trek’s opening double-header was at Philadelphia’s Veterans Stadium on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1, earning a combined $3.2 million to a sea of 111,000 fans.)

Initially announced and put on sale for 2020 dates, the tour was postponed due to COVID-19 and restarted on Sept. 26 at The Dome at America’s Center in St. Louis, Mo., bringing in $7.2 million on opening night.

The 2021 No Filter Tour went on to hit stadiums in 13 cities, mostly in the Southeast, Midwest and West Coast, plus two shows in Texas (Cotton Bowl in Dallas on Nov. 2 and Circuit of the Americas in Austin on Nov. 20).

Los Angeles is the only city to get two shows, with a double-header at Inglewood’s newly opened SoFi Stadium on Oct. 14 and 17. The shows earned $18.9 million and sold 81,700 tickets, handily taking honors as the trek’s best-grossing and most-attended engagement. The venue finished as 2021’s Top Stadium and, more recently, was home to four record-breaking BTS concerts that will count toward the 2022 Boxscore charts.

The ’21 No Filter Tour boasts four other $10 million shows. On Oct. 29, the Stones earned $11.4 million at Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium. Consecutive shows on Nov. 6 (Allegiant Stadium, Las Vegas) and Nov. 11 (Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta) earned $14.8 million and $11.1 million, respectively. And finally, the Nov. 20 Austin, Texas show grossed $10.1 million. The dates in Tampa and Austin each sold more than 50,000 tickets.

The Las Vegas $14.8 million take is the second-highest grossing one-night engagement in Billboard Boxscore’s three decade-plus history. The only bigger one-show gross was the finale date of George Strait’s 2014 The Cowboy Rides Away Tour, which brought in $18.2 million on June 7, 2014 with support from Jason Aldean, Eric Church, Sheryl Crow and Kenny Chesney.

The No Filter Tour was recently named 2021’s No. 1 Tour and Top Rock Tour, with several appearances in the year-end Top Boxscores ranking. The six November shows will count toward the 2022 standings.

The Rolling Stones first embarked on the No Filter Tour in 2017, playing 14 shows in Europe. Then, they returned with 14 more shows on the same continent the following year. In 2019, the rock legends traveled across the pond for 16 North American shows.
