“Macarena” creators Los del Río — along with Puerto Rican star Lucecita Benítez, Venezuelan singer/songwriter Ilan Chester, Argentine troubadour Victor Heredia, Mexican star Guadalupe Pineda, Dominican singer/songwriter Cuco Valoy and Brazilian singer/songwriter and guitarist João Bosco — will receive Lifetime Achievement Awards from the Latin Recording Academy as a prelude to the 2017 Latin Grammy Awards.
In addition, composer Lalo Schifrin and recording engineer John Fausty will receive the Trustees Award. All will be honored at a ceremony taking place Nov. 15 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Las Vegas. The Latin Grammys will take place the following evening, Nov. 16.

The Lifetime Achievement Award is presented to performers who “have made unprecedented contributions of outstanding artistic significance to Latin music,” while The Trustees Award is given to individuals who have made significant contributions beyond performance. All honors are voted on by members of The Latin Academy’s board of trustees.
As always, the Latin Academy casts a wide geographic net in its honorees, and this year, the group is eclectic and comes from a wide variety of countries representing many musical genres.
“Our 2017 class represents a wide-range of artists that together have contributed to shape Latin music’s iconic rhythms and lyrics throughout history,” said Laras president/CEO Gabriel Abaroa Jr. “Each honoree is an inspiration to our culture and community, as well as a muse for new and contemporary work.”
This year’s group of honorees stands out because most, if not all, artists honored remain active in their fields. Several, including Chester and Bosco, have won Latin Grammys.
