BTS’ Debut Album & Single Return to the Charts After Fan-Led April Fools’ Day Joke
BTS' '2 Cool 4 Skool' album and songs "No More Dream," "Like" and "Intro:2Cool 4 Skool" entered the World Albums and Digital Song Sales charts after an April Fools' Day prank.
BTS‘ A.R.M.Y. fans are such an undeniable force that even their pranks can create a major impact.
Ahead of April Fools’ Day 2020, fans across social media began anticipating the “debut” of a “new” boy band called BTS coming on April 1. While it was a joke, it was also a moment for fans to look back on the group’s historic career and many took the chance to show extra love and support to the septet’s actual debut album from 2013.
Originally released on June 12, 2013, BTS’ first album 2 Cool 4 Skool made its debut on Billboard‘s World Albums chart this week at No. 12 nearly seven years after release. The record sold 1,000 equivalent album units in the week ending April 2, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. To date, 2 Cool 4 Skool has earned 68,000 units in America.
Fans were also returning to BTS’ earliest songs too.

The group’s debut single “No More Dream” hit a new high of No. 2 on Billboard’s World Digital Song Sales chart this week too, up from its original peak of No. 14. The song sold an additional 1,000 copies to mark its single best sales week to date and become the best-selling K-pop song in America this week. “No More Dream” now boasts a grand total of 45,000 copies sold in the U.S so far.
The debut discoveries didn’t stop at the single, either. Two other early BTS songs ended up making their chart debuts with “Like” (which enters at No. 10) and “Intro:2Cool 4 Skool” which features DJ Friz (at No. 18) marking their first chart appearances. Respectively, “Like” and “Intro” boast 18,000 and 1,000 total copies sold in the U.S.
While the BTS members are big fans of April Fools’ Day pranks — with Suga and J-Hope changing BTS’ official Twitter to become their “duo” account last year among other annual jokes — eldest member Jin shard on the group’s fan community WeVerse that he felt uncomfortable playing pranks this year because there are difficult “incidents,” likely in reference to concerns over coronavirus around the world.
