South Korean septet BTS had a brief but impactful moment on stage tonight at the 61st Grammy Awards, during which they thanked their fans for their support promised they’d be back at the Grammys in the future.
Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook made their Grammy debut as presenters, announcing H.E.R’s self-titled EP as the best R&B album of the year.
Coming on stage as their song “Fake Love” played, the seven men represented themselves and South Korea. “Growing up in South Korea, we always dreamed about standing on the Grammy stage,” said RM. “Thank you for all our fans for making this dream come true. And we’ll be back.”
They then announced H.E.R as the winner of the award, with V passing off the award to the 21-year-old. Earlier in the night, the Korean group had been seen dancing along to her performance of “Hard Place.”
BTS became the first-ever Korean artist to top the Billboard 200 last year with May’s Love Yourself: Tear, and then they hit No. 1 again with August’s Love Yourself: Answer. Tear became the first-ever Korean album nominated at the Grammys, making its mark in the recording packaging category, though St. Vincent’s Masseduction took home the award.
