Lil Nas X rounded up all of his new friends for one star-studded run through “Old Town Road” and its many hit remixes tonight (Jan. 26) at the 2020 Grammys — with one new special guest saved for a surprise at the end.
Beginning his performance on a set designed to look his living room — complete with Kobe Bryant jersey and Billboard magazine cover — Lil Nas X entered a different room to find K-pop superstars BTS, who performed the chorus from the RM-featuring “Seoul Town Road” remix.
Then, the rapper performed Young Thug’s verse from the third “Road” remix himself, before Mason Ramsey joined to perform his contribution (with Diplo, producer on the song’s second remix, playing banjo in the background). And of course, Billy Ray Cyrus ended the “Road” medley with his now-classic guest verse on the song’s orignal remix.
Rather than end the performance there, though, Lil Nas X transitioned to a performance of his 7 EP highlight “Rodeo,” clad in a Matrix-like leather trenchoat. But rather than bring out Cardi B to perform her verse on the song, he offered one more viral moment for the internet: a feature apperance from veteran New York rap star (and LNX name progenitor) Nas, who ended the medley by excitedly proclaiming “Big Nas and Lil Nas!”
Lil Nas X is nominated for six awards at the 2020 Grammys, including album of the year (for his 7 EP), record of the year (“Old Town Road”) and best new artist. He won two awards in the pre-show telecast, for best pop duo/group performance (with Cyrus for “Old Town Road”) and best music video (“Old Town Road”).
