America’s Got Talent — and now America has BTS too.
The Korean septet appeared at the start of Tuesday night’s episode of AGT, kicking off the semifinal show with a performance of their August-released single “Idol.” It was the first time BTS — RM, Suga, V, Jungkook, Jimin, Jin, and J-Hope — appeared on the competition program. It is also their inaugural performance on a Stateside prime-time television series. In the past, they’ve appeared at the Billboard Music Awards, American Music Awards and Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Year’s Eve, along with several late-night and daytime talk show appearances.
Though the group performed the Love Yourself: Answer track solo — plus some help from a crew of dancers — an alternate version of “Idol” with a bonus verse from Nicki Minaj recently debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 11. Love Yourself: Answer topped the Billboard 200 on the chart dated Sept. 8 following the album’s Aug. 24 release.
Earlier, AGT shared a clip of BTS with judge Tyra Banks, a self-proclaimed fan of the group, giving a short rendition of “Idol.”
AGT tweeted out a clip from the show, declaring BTS “the biggest boy band in the world on the world’s biggest stage.”

The AGT performance coincides with the group’s concert Wednesday night in Oakland, California, at the Oracle Arena, the group’s fifth sold-out arena show in the state. The group heads to Fort Worth, Texas, on Saturday for the sixth show of their dozen sold-out Stateside stops of the Love Yourself world tour. The local leg concludes Oct. 6 at New York’s Citi Field, the first-ever solo stadium concert for a Korean act in the U.S.
The finale episodes of this season of America’s Got Talent begin live on Sept. 18 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC. The results show will air the next day, where the winner of season 13 will be announced.
