On Saturday (Nov. 25), Psy tweeted his thanks to fans for watching “Gangnam Style” on YouTube over three billion times.
“‘Gangnam Style’ got 3 billion views!!” wrote the Korean artist. “THX.”
Psy’s parodic hit remains the third-most viewed video on the streaming platform, following Luis Fonsi‘s “Despacito” feat. Daddy Yankee and Wiz Khalifa‘s “See You Again” feat. Charlie Puth.

Earlier this year, Psy told Billboard that he was ready to move on from “Gangnam Style,” but the megahit remains part of the Korean rapper’s legacy. He made history in 2012 when “Gangnam Style” became the first viral video to achieve over one billion views on YouTube. The music video held first place on the streaming platform up until a few days prior to the fifth anniversary of the milestone earlier this year, when “See You Again” surpassed Psy’s song as a the most-viewed video ever. “Despacito” has since overtaken both videos.
At the height of its popularity, “Gangnam Style” hit No. 2 on the Hot 100 chart. It currently remains the highest-charting Korean song on the Billboard chart, though BTS’ “DNA” hit No. 7 this year; Psy passed the torch to the boy band ahead of their AMAs performance last week.
A satirical commentary on the nouveau riche denizens of the Gangnam neighborhood of Seoul, Psy’s “Gangnam Style” went viral for its comedic styling and prominent horse dance. The artist has since released multiple follow-ups, and most recently released his 4×2=8 album in May.
