Kenny Chesney Scores Record-Breaking 30th No. 1 on Country Airplay Chart With ‘Get Along’

Kenny Chesney‘s “Get Along” ascends 2-1 in its 15th week on Billboard‘s Country Airplay chart (dated July 21), as it increases 7 percent to 46.2 million audience impressions in the tracking week ending July 15, according to Nielsen Music.
“Along” marks Chesney’s 30th Country Airplay leader, lifting him into first place for the most No. 1s in the chart’s archives, dating to the list’s Jan. 20, 1990, launch. Chesney passes Tim McGraw, now in second place with 29 No. 1s. Alan Jackson and George Strait follow with 26 each.
“Get Along’ felt like such an important idea, beyond how great the song itself feels,” Chesney tells Billboard. “I think with all the anger in the world, the idea of finding what we have in common and working from there struck a nerve with people, because I can hear how much they mean it when they sing it back to me night after night. This isn’t just a party tune to them; it’s something they believe.”
Chesney continues, “Because of that, for it to be my 30th No. 1, that’s awesome. I like the idea of a song about bringing people together at a time when people are craving that unity; it’s the perfect way to set a record. Something good coming from something that’s about doing good.”
“Along,” penned by Shane McAnally, Ross Copperman and Josh Osborne, is the first single from Chesney’s studio album Songs for the Saints (due July 27), his first on Warner Music Nashville. “She’s Got it All,” his ninth Country Airplay appearance (of 88 to date), became his first No. 1, spending its first of three weeks at the summit on the chart dated Aug. 30, 1997.
“Along” follows Chesney’s duet with David Lee Murphy, “Everything’s Gonna Be Alright,” which led the Country Airplay list dated June 23. Chesney has now earned multiple No. 1s on the survey in the same year for the first time since 2015, when he sent three songs to the summit: “Til It’s Gone,” “Wild Child” (with Grace Potter) and “Save It for a Rainy Day.” In addition to 2018 and 2015, Chesney has tallied more than one Country Airplay No. 1 in 2012, 2011, 2009, 2008, 2007, 2006 and 1999.
