Ed Sheeran First Act With Two Songs to Top Adult Contemporary Chart For at Least 20 Weeks Each

"Perfect" leads for a 20th week after "Shape of You" reigned for 24.

Ed Sheeran becomes the first artist with two songs that have led Billboard‘s Adult Contemporary radio airplay chart for at least 20 weeks each, as “Perfect” tops the survey (dated July 7) for a 20th frame.    

“Perfect,” the third radio single from Sheeran’s 2017 album, ÷ (Divide), follows lead single “Shape of You,” which ruled for 24 weeks.

“Shape” claims the second-longest command in the Adult Contemporary chart’s 57-year history, while “Perfect” becomes one of just eight hits to have led for at least 20 weeks:

Sheeran almost boasts three No. 1s with at least 20 weeks apiece at the summit: his other leader, “Thinking Out Loud,” totaled 19 weeks on top in 2015.    

Billboard‘s Adult Contemporary chart, which premiered on July 17, 1961, measures total weekly plays, as tabulated by Nielsen Music, among its reporting panel of 87 adult contemporary stations.
