The Strain's gory action helps compensate for an unfocused narrative, while the show's political and philosophical subtext add necessary heft for adult viewers.

Emily St. James Vox The Strain has slowly wormed its way into my affections, as surely as one of the show's vampire worms burrowing into a victim's eye. Sep 9, 2015 Full Review Jeff Jensen Entertainment Weekly You don't have to wait long for FX's vampire saga The Strain to deliver the creepy, cheeky shocks and gore that made the show a delightful summertime thriller last year. Rated: B- Jul 27, 2015 Full Review John Doyle Globe and Mail The Strain is the summer's most bizarre, addictive series, bewilderingly beguiling. Jul 13, 2015 Full Review Randy Dankievitch TV Over Mind The Strain has been an absolute mess this season, discrediting its own reality with its inconsistent logic... and refusing to explore its characters beyond the most superficial, plot-serving levels. Mar 6, 2020 Full Review Marc Buxton Den of Geek It was still much better than last season's flat climax. Rated: 3/5 Jan 31, 2019 Full Review Haleigh Foutch Collider Season 2 is a marked improvement over the first, but willfully stupid characters, circuitous storytelling, and convoluted world-building continue to keep the series from reaching its full potential. Joel B Half a star is being generous. The one normal woman dies at the end of season 2 and his borderline spastic son compromises literally every mission and never shuts up. Burns the ears Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/16/23 Full Review Kronos B This was one of the best vampire lore shows I have ever seen. The attention to detail, the story, and the characters were absolutely wonderful. I couldn't stop watching it. 10/10 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/27/23 Full Review Anthony L Like the first season, it had a great lineup of cast members. I felt as though the script was well written and didn't leave anything out. I liked the mixture of action, horror and backstory. It kept me binging this over the weekend and completing it in three days. I haven't been caught up in a series like this since Game of Thrones. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review tarek a One of the most deliciously depressing series I have ever seen, as depressing as the Walking Dead or any global apocalypse scenario, where humanity falls into darkness simply because of arrogance, infighting and close-mindedness. The viewer might ask why this plague did not consume humanity before. As the series rolls out there are genuine reasons for that, based on our scientific progress, coupled with social isolation and mistrust. All the emo vampire shows with pale tall models are pathetic and bizarre compared to this realistic horror saga. To portray the strigoi vampire species as a pathogenic host-based organism is a genius move. The mechanisms and modalities of this species make sense as they are rooted firmly in biology. The special effects are equally compelling and gory, a real blood fest sure to please any horror fan. The characters of this show are relatable and memorable. Each person does their very best to turn the tide in favour or against humanity, based on their ethos. Certainly Abraham Setrakian and Thomas Eichorst tower over the rest, ancient immortal foes against each other. The other great strife between the Master and the Born is an epic duel of fates. The supporting cast makes a great team across the board, demonstrating the central theme of the show, that evil uses love to win. The deep roots of the series in history add tremendous depth to the events, showing the repeating cycle of good versus evil. This show embodies "The only thing necessary for evil to triumph in the world is that the good do nothing". Though the series is a short 4 seasons, it completes a beautiful arc and ends with a clean slice. A really well-made show that puts you through the wringer with tension and shock, but does not once lose its footing and consistency. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review kate t This was the scariest TV show I've ever watched. Just awesome! Mr. DelToro and crew must have had a blast coming up with ways to scare their audience. WELL DONE! Great script and dialogue. Solid directing and the casting was PERFECT! Just great how they use people of all ages, accents and backgrounds. Makes for a super colorful cast to compliment the super colorful bloody monsters. A side note: I was watching the season/episode where the zombies are after the heroes at midnight, quite spooky. As the zombies attacked, lights go out.... and just as that happened my lights went out and I lost internet service. What a great and terrifying coincidence! I hope it doesn't happen during this second viewing though. Ha ha ha Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member The level is lower than the first season, but still have some good points and follow the rithmy.
