Kambole Campbell Thrillist The series can often move at a relentless pace that doesn't allow its themes and character arcs to breathe, though there are a handful of episodes that take time to slow down and decompress. Jul 23, 2020 Full Review Christopher L. Inoa Observer There is enough story here to fill a 22- or even 18-episode series, but because it is limited to ten, many storylines feel underdeveloped, even those concerning the main characters. As a result, Japan Sinks feels rushed and unearned. Jul 23, 2020 Full Review Roger Moore Tribune News Service Has the look of a hastily-drawn comic book hastily flash-animated for TV. Rated: 2/4 Jul 14, 2020 Full Review Derrick Pittman But Why Tho? A Geek Community Japan Sinks: 2020 really explores the humanity of people when things hit the fan, rules are thrown out the window, and society crumbles. We see many folks helping the Muto family get to safety and it’s refreshing. Rated: 9/10 Apr 11, 2023 Full Review David Opie Digital Spy Like the earthquakes themselves, Japan Sinks hits the viewer with waves of intensity punctuated by quieter, but no less tense, moments that provide some meagre respite from the horror. Dec 11, 2020 Full Review Stephen McCarty South China Morning Post This challenging 10-part story, which can be emotionally wrenching, is certain to find global favour, approaching the subject of survival from personal and universal angles simultaneously. streng g Not Bad, but the Book is better Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/23/23 Full Review David O The title kinda gave it away; we never find out who sunk Japan! Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Just bingewatched the whole season in one evening! I began to read the book its based on a while ago, which is why I started the series. But except the same main theme, it has nothing to do with the series. Although I'm not a big fan of the "end-of-the-world" genre, I was surprised, in a very good way. Although very dramatic by moments (and by moments, I mean every epiosde) this anime doesn't bring distress. On the contrary, I found myself filled with a bit more hope, after watching it. But maybe it's because I lost someone dear to me a couple of days ago. I think what struck me the most was the constrast between the scenes of disasters and the tenderness of the music. Thanks to this constrast, instead of being painful and violent, the scenes almost seemed melancholic, thanks to the great musical composition. The only thing I liked less were the drawings of the characters, although, I have a theory that people weren't as important as the nature and the overall image, which is why the landscapes were a lot more detailed than the characters. Overall, I'm glad I watched it and I do reccomend it, especially to those who have lost their purpose in life, because the characters in the show lost everything. But still managed to go on. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member It was a good watch. Couldn't get off the couch, just wanted to keep watching Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Spoilers****It always a bunch of morons with no common sense or skills that manage to survive the initial disaster.
