55% Tomatometer 11 Reviews 76% Audience Score 250+ Ratings Based on the book by Brian McGreevy and executive produced by acclaimed horror master Eli Roth ("Hostel"), this Netflix original series revolves around the peculiar residents -- and killer creatures -- of Hemlock Grove, a dilapidated former steel town in Pennsylvania. The town is composed of people living in poverty and those who are extremely wealthy -- and everyone has a secret. As sinister mysteries unfold, a seamier side of the town is exposed, placing suspicion on many and revealing that nothing is what it seems. Read More Read Less

      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Hemlock Grove jettisons some of its most grating qualities while doubling down on its splashy gore, making for a more engaging second season -- but the series frustratingly remains a shoddy amalgamation of gothic tropes.

Margaret Lyons New York Magazine/Vulture All the stories get flabby along the way, and by season two, the show has more than exhausted itself. Jan 15, 2019 Full Review Ross Jones Daily Telegraph (UK) If queasy gore and supernatural mayhem entertain you, who are we to judge? But other shows do it with so much more style and genuine scares. Rated: 1/5 Jan 15, 2019 Full Review Brian Tallerico RogerEbert.com I keep trying to like Hemlock Grove. And failing. Jul 14, 2014 Full Review Sadie Gennis TV Guide This show is utter perfection and it should never change. Jan 15, 2019 Full Review Amy Ratcliffe IGN Movies They're veering off page from the book by Brian McGreevy, and they're going in a positive direction. The world has a become a place I want to know more about. Rated: 6.7/10 Jan 15, 2019 Full Review Alec Bojalad Den of Geek Season two of Hemlock Grove is more streamlined and quite a bit smarter even if it at times can feel like a New York Times' list of corrections for the previous season. Audience Member It was not as strong as the first season, I did enjoy all of the hardcore scenes. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review eden s The first season was a bit of mess. All over the place and confusing, but I'm happy that I kept watching because season two is great. Season three starts good than gets floppy after the second episode and the ending felt unsatisfying and rushed. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Season two was even better! The characters are fleshed out more and the storyline picks up more rapidly. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member I loved the first season, but the second season was just missing something. I am not sure what, but it didn't have that magic that the first season had. Still very watchable. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member It becomes apparent by Season 2 that the nudity is just as gratuitous as the gore. Bear in mind that you will soon be seeing the tits of every single nubile, pretty female introduced in this series. The casting director clearly has a type. The good news is that none of them sport implants. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member The show falls into unrelated pieces in season two, where nothing makes sense outside of the very very obvious, which is a huge letdown, given what we were led to believe in season one.
