Tom Hiddleston and Zawe Ashton are one truly Marvel-ous couple.

The duo first met while costarring in the 2019 play Betrayal, and have kept their relationship mostly out of the spotlight ever since.

After appearing together on the red carpet of the 2022 BAFTAs, PEOPLE confirmed that the Loki actor and The Marvels actress are engaged. They reportedly welcomed their first child together in October 2022.

"I'm very happy" is all Hiddleston would say to the Los Angeles Times when asked about his engagement to Ashton.

March 2019: Tom Hiddleston and Zawe Ashton star in Betrayal in London

In March 2019, Hiddleston and Ashton costarred in the revival of Harold Pinter's play Betrayal, where they played a married couple named Robert and Emma opposite Daredevil's Charlie Cox, whose character Jerry has an affair with Emma. Interestingly enough, the 2013 revival of the play starred another real-life couple, Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz.

The play ran at the West End's Harold Pinter Theater from March to June 2019.

April 3, 2019: Tom Hiddleston supports Zawe Ashton's book launch in London

While starring together in Betrayal, Hiddleston supported costar Zawe Ashton at the launch party of her first book, Character Breakdown, at Wild By Tart in London. The Daily Mail said Hiddleston looked "in high spirits" as he posed for photos with Ashton.

August 2019: Tom Hiddleston and Zawe Ashton's Betrayal transfers to Broadway

After a successful run in London, the production of Betrayal starring Hiddleston, Ashton and Charlie Cox transferred to Broadway's Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre for a three-month run, once again making Hiddleston and Ashton costars.

Not only did the play mark Hiddleston's Broadway debut, but he was later nominated for Best Actor in a Play at the Tony Awards.

August 27, 2019: Tom Hiddleston and Zawe Ashton spark dating rumors

Shortly after sharing the stage together, Hiddleston and Ashton sparked dating rumors when they were spotted attending the US Open together.

A source close to the production of Betrayal told PEOPLE in March 2022 that the pair always had "lovely" chemistry together when working on the play.

"They were very private publicly, but behind the scenes you could just see a lovely chemistry," the source recalls. "There were twinkles in both of their eyes, and the entire company, including Charlie Cox, were all very close."

The source adds, "Tom has always been a very, very private person. Behind the scenes, they would just privately be affectionate and hugging and sitting next to each other and holding hands."

February 16, 2021: Zawe Ashton joins Tom Hiddleston in the MCU

In February 2021, Deadline reported that Ashton had joined the cast of The Marvels opposite Brie Larson as Captain Marvel. Though no other details were revealed at the time, she is rumored to be playing the villain in the upcoming film, which is slated to release in early 2023. (Larson and Ashton stoked the rumors further with a seemingly significant Instagram.) Seeing that Hiddleston is well-known for playing the lovable villain Loki, her casting couldn't be more perfect.

September 2021: Tom Hiddleston and Zawe Ashton vacation together

In September 2021, paparazzi caught the private couple showing rare PDA as they vacationed in Ibiza, Spain. The two could be seen sharing a kiss as they took a dip in the water.

September 26, 2021: Tom Hiddleston and Zawe Ashton attend their first public event as a couple

After more than two years of dating, Hiddleston and Ashton seemingly confirmed their romance as they posed together at the 2021 Tony Awards. In addition to taking photos with their Betrayal costar Charlie Cox on the red carpet, they also shared a sweet moment together inside the show.

March 13, 2022: Tom Hiddleston and Zawe Ashton hold hands at the BAFTAs

In March 2022, the couple held hands on the red carpet as they attended the BAFTAs together, marking one of the first times they have been so public with their relationship. Hiddleston looked sharp in a black tux, while Ashton looked pretty in pink in a flowing gown, and both beamed at each other as they posed for the cameras.

March 2022: Tom Hiddleston and Zawe Ashton get engaged

Following their appearance at the BAFTAs, the two sparked engagement rumors when Ashton was spotted wearing a diamond ring on her left finger in a photo shared by AJ Odudu. Shortly after, PEOPLE confirmed their engagement.

June 14, 2022: Tom Hiddleston confirms engagement to Zawe Ashton

Three months after Ashton was spotted with the ring, Hiddleston publicly confirmed their engagement in an interview with the Los Angeles Times.

The actor simply stated, "I'm very happy," with no further comment on the topic.

June 29, 2022: Zawe Ashton reveals she's pregnant

While attending an N.Y.C. screening for her film Mr. Malcolm's List, the actress revealed that she and Hiddleston are expecting their first child as she debuted her growing baby bump on the red carpet.

October 2022: Tom Hiddleston and Zawe Ashton reportedly welcome their first child

In late October, Us Weekly reported that the couple had welcomed their first child together. “Tom and Zawe are loving being new parents and are filled with joy,” a source told the publication at the time.

July 16, 2023: Tom Hiddleston and Zawe Ashton attend Wimbledon together

In July, Hiddleston and Ashton made a rare public appearance together as they watched the Wimbledon 2023 men's final in London. They were seated with fellow Marvel star Andrew Garfield as well as Wicked stars Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey. July 18, 2023: Zawe Ashton reveals the advice Tom Hiddleston gave her about joining the MCU

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Ashton opened up about what it was like speaking with Marvel veteran Hiddleston ahead of her own appearance as a villain, in The Marvels.

Ashton told EW her casting "led to some incredible conversations" with Hiddleston "about his experience being part of this franchise for over a decade."

"One of the main takeaways from our conversations was, 'What you put into Marvel, you get back,' " the actress shared. " 'If you go into this with an open heart and a great work ethic and just want to provide an amazing experience for the fans, you'll have an amazing experience on those sets.' "

"He really empowered me in that way," Ashton added.

November 10, 2023: Tom Hiddleston says he's 'very proud' of Zawe Ashton's role in The Marvels

While promoting the second season of Loki on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Hiddleston couldn't help but gush about Ashton's recent role in The Marvels.

When asked if there were any connections between the two Marvel projects, the actor responded, “I mean, there are connections. Some secret, some not-so-secret. I don’t know what the fans think the secret connection is.”

He then pointed out the personal connection between the projects saying, “My other half is in The Marvels and I’m very proud of her. So there you go. That’s out this weekend."
