Something witchy is coming (back) to Riverdale.
Kiernan Shipka will reprise her role as teenage witch Sabrina Spellman later this season on the CW drama, TVLine has learned exclusively. The news will be officially announced during Riverdale‘s PaleyFest panel in Los Angeles on Saturday.
Shipka originally starred as Sabrina on the Netflix spinoff Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, which wrapped up its run in 2020. She arrived in Riverdale for a long-awaited crossover earlier this season, helping her old pal Cheryl Blossom with a spell during the “Rivervale” five-episode event. And now that Cheryl is possessed by the evil spirit of her vengeful ancestor Abigail, she could use some help from the supernatural realm.
Also, TVLine has learned that Riverdale will be doing a musical episode later this season, continuing its annual tradition, this time taking on the American Psycho musical — which happens to count Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa as one of its writers. (He wrote the book, with Duncan Sheik writing the music and lyrics.) The musical is based on the novel and movie about ’80s yuppie killer Patrick Bateman — which makes a lot of sense, because this new bad guy Percival Pickens is definitely giving off some sinister Patrick Bateman vibes.
Riverdale airs Sundays at 8/7c on The CW. Are you excited for Sabrina’s return? How about the American Psycho musical episode? Drop your thoughts in a comment below.
OMG so exciting. I wish she would just become a series regular, but I know she’s on to bigger and better things. Still, could be super cool if she recurs next season and more of the Greendale gang makes appearances too :)
Yay Sabrina!
I think we’re done here. I have been.
Really appreciate TVLine’s timely information.
How are they going to do that with her dead? And yes, I know she was alive in Rivervale, but none of that really happened.
I guess the Occult Adventures of Sabrina sequel comic will explain it?
We can probably think of it as a multiverse. Since same actors appeared on both shows as different characters and there’s also other inconsistencies
Wasn’t it determined that it did happen? It was just an alternate universe.
Besides, we’re talking about a show where the main characters all have superpowers now or are possessed by dead spirits.
I am very happy about Sabrina’s return but not so happy about the musical news. I hate the musical episodes.
Her first appearance never really happened. Let’s hope this one does.
That blink and u missed her cameo was so uneventful… hopefully, she gets a more meaningful story line this time.
That was the most overhype piece of crap ever for a show. So many Sabrina fans were looking forward to her return. All we got was like a minute or two. It was very deceitful. I hope this one isn’t another let down but Riverdale has been so bad since the huge let down in season 4 with the videotape reveal, they don’t have the creativity anymore for their stories. It should have ended with their graduation from high school.
Can they do a musical that Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa didn’t co-write? First Carrie, now American Psycho.
RAS didn’t co-write the Carrie musical. He did do-write the 2013 remake starring Chloe Grace Moretz
All hail Sabrina, Queen of Hell!! Nuf said.
Riverdale does not deserve Kiernan. It’s honestly tragic that CAOS lived a short life when it was the more polished project out of the two. I hope to see Kiernan move onto bigger projects now.
Still wish Netflix hadn’t canceled Sabrina.
Can’t wait to see Sabrina again, but I’ll be honest, I loathe musical episodes of ANY show. They are unnatural and not organic to the plot. They’re contrived and the actors are usually not great singers. They have plenty of singing in Riverdale already. Musical episodes are often Jump the Shark moments. Even Buffy tanked after the musical.
for a character that’s supposed to be dead she’s coming back a lot
I started watching Legends of Tomorrow because they adopted John Constantine after NBC cancelled his show. If Riverdale adopts Sabrina, I’ll happily start watching Riverdale, just saying…
*SPOILER ALERT*
They also killed off Constantine.
constantine is still alive. he’s just off doing his own thing on legends and matt ryan is playing a different character
Maybe i’m a only one but I really like everymusical episode or performance on this show. They make musical episodes from off-Broadway/West end and not so popular tittles (Little shop of horrors, Hedvig, Carrie, Next to Normal and Heathers) and I appreciate this ♥️
I’m with you :)
And I never heard anything from Carrie before Riverdale so they broadend my horizon
If they’re going to keep having musical episodes shouldn’t they bring Josie and The Pussycats back fom New York? And maybe the female impersonator singer Ginger too. That would be a lot better musical.
Hope chilling adventures of sabrina comes back (spoilers if not watched sabrina) because it left badly and disappointing, I liked sabrina all the way up to season 4 I think and it went down hill, if they do need to end the show please make it good
