The Virgin Megastore is Ireland's newest and biggest record shop.

While there were no megastars present, there was a float on the River Liffey with live music from Cork band 'Microdisney' to entertain the crowd that gathered on Aston Quay at the opening of Richard Branson's Virgin Megastore.

The new shop is heralded as

The biggest record shop in Ireland.

The new Miss World Giselle Laronde from Trinidad & Tobago signed autographs inside the new £2 million store, formerly the home of McBirney's Department Store.

Dermot Hanrahan, General Manager of the new Virgin Megastore says that there is space in the market for both the Virgin Megastore and HMV to co-exist, but it is possible that some smaller records stores will go to the wall.

This report shows Ian Dempsey in the Radio 2 FM radio booth in-store. RTÉ Radio 2 FM is to broadcast live from the store each Saturday.
